    Claiming for travel expenses??

    Hi people.
We have to travel to Brisbane to see my daughters specialist surgeon and then eventually for her surgery. i was speaking to some people when I was still in hospital about claiming for travel and accomodation expenses as we have to travel over 100km... trouble is I have forgotten who the claim is through and how to fid out any information!!
Does anyone here know about anything like this and where I could find some more information?

    Thanks
    Jen

I'm not too sure, but I know you cant claim it through your tax return in the medical expenses section.. sorry thats not much help.
I would have thought medicare could assist with that?

It's either Centrelink or Family Assistance office, I think. I remember enquiring about it when mys son was in hospital. I think we were just under the cut off in terms of distance, so we weren't able to access any extra $$

The program is called the Isolated Patient Travel and Accommodation Assistance Scheme, or IPTAAS. A hospital social worker should be able to connect you with the right forms, etc. The forms need to be signed by either your referring doctor or the specialist you are travelling to see.
