    Cystic Meconium Peritonitis/ Bowel Atresia

In utero in was discovered our son's bowel was twisted and had perforated resulting in a meconium cyst forming. Was wondering if anyone else had been through the same/similar. Would really love to talk to someone who has been through this. It is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

    Hi Reeceydoll

Sorry to hear you're going through some tough times. Unfortunately I don't have a child who has a similar condition, but I do understand the difficulty in clinging to hope some days (my son also had mountains to climb).

I hope someone else on BellyBelly can share their story with you to help shine that light for you.

Reecydoll, sorry to hear about this bad news. May I ask whether they are testing for a reason for his bowel problem?

    Hey All
Jett had his op like planned on friday afternoon. All went well. The stoma has now been closed, so now we sit and wait . Had his first little motion on Saturday night, HOORAY!!!! Since then has only done one more, but cant expect too much to come out yet as he hasnt started feeds yet and is on TPN & lipid still. Once he has more motion, they will commence feeds, then hopefully if all goes well he will be home in the next couple of weeks.
A BIG thank-you to all for the well wishes from you wonderful women. The support has been a great help.

Take care & will keep u posted

    Hey Shannon
Have read about your little precious, and my heart goes out to you & your family. Is Jessalyn's stoma going to be permanant or only for the short term?

    Hey Shannon
A stoma is when a section of bowel is cut in 2, and the 2 pieces of bowel protrude on the outer of the abdomen, and an ileostomy bag covers the section of bowel for the poo to empty into. If Jessalyn has it longer than her stay in hospital, a Stoma nurse will teach you how to care for it. Hopefully her bowel doesnt need to rest for too long.
I was concerned about the scar he would be left with but the stoma looks worse than what it comes out of. Just a fine 4cm line.
If you go to Google and type in stoma and click images you will get a visual.

    All the best, chat soon

    Hi Cherisse

Just popping in to see how Jett is doing this week. Hope it has been one filled with more "ups" than "downs"

    Hey All
This week has been pretty exciting for us. Jett started feeds last Friday 1ml/hr, and it has now reached 15ml/hr. They changed his formula from Karicare to an Elemental formula called Elecare. It is a pre digested formula, so his little bowel doesnt have to work as hard. They are no longer aspirating bile from his gut, letting nature take its course, or vomiting which ever happens first, which is usually vomit, as his bowel still isnt working to speed. Hoping that the vomiting stops soon, he no longer gets as distressed when he is being sick, but I dont know if that is a good thing or not. So all in all, taking the good with the bad and hoping something gives real soon. Want my lil man home for my b'day.

    Take care
