MRI on back and tummy normal?

Hi everyone,

My son (13 months) is currently going through some diagnostic procedures for a neurological condition that he may have. Today we had an MRI which I believe is more to rule a few things out than anything else. The MRI was on his brain and spine.

They told us at the start it would only take 45 mins. It ended up taking 1hour and 45 mins and when I asked why the guy mumbled something about after having done the MRI lying on his back they needed to flip him over and do it while he was on his tummy.

Does anyone else whose baby has had an MRI been through this? Is it normal? Or could it indicate that they found a problem and wanted to get some better/more 'pictures'?

I know I should just not worry and wait for the results in a week, but you know how it is when you're a mum :-)

I assist in running MRI's on animals, and most often when we are working on the brain or the cervical spine, we turn them. Its not because we've found anything nasty, just that we want clear views either way. Often we don't know if its nasty or not without consulting with the specialist... we just do it to be thorough.

Turns out the MRI was normal :-)

Why it took over an hour longer than they said it would remains a mystery.
