My 6 month old DD needs a Hearing Aid.

I have a friend with a little guy who's had them a month now and he's only 4 months old.It is just what you describe.
It doesn't seem to bother him, and my friend said the difference it made when they turned it on, made everything else seem unimportant.
Good luck mate. I used to work with one of the professors from Hearing Australia at the kids hospital where we did cochlear implants and they were always fantastic. They have a great support network for you to utilise too.

a friends daughter had them from about 6 months as she also needed grommits and had a cleft palate.

she coped fine and hearing is fine now at 3 yrs of age, (had op at about 16 months for grommits)

Kane also failed all his hearing tests, but not enough for a hearing aid luckly, just had the gromits in at 16 months... and its already made a difference in less than 2 weeks!!!

You and Matilda will be fine, she'll get used to them, and you can hopefully avoid all the speech problems!!!

Thanks Kim. I am finding it hard at the moment to see what difference it is going to make as she can hear almost down to a whisper in her right ear and in her left she can only hear really loud noises and tit is all still muffled. I can't wait to get it fitted and turned on she loves music and knowing that she loves it without hearing it properly/completly makes me excited as to how she will hear it with the hearing aid.

I hope that your bubba is doing well and that you are feeling better, I read your thread the other day and it made me upset. The hospital 'specialists' tried to deliver my DD at 28 weeks but I refused. I was lucky that I trusted my instinct and everything went well, she was delivered at 38+2 weeks. I wish the best for you and your family.

Thanks Feeb this is great to know. DD has a cleft palate and she will be getting it repaired at 18 months and that is when she will get the grommets. It is great to know that your friends DD is 3 and is doing well, it helps me see that there is hope for the future.


PM - Thankyou. Matilda passed her hearing screening, then failed her first hearing test, this last one she failed by even more so we have been referred to Aust. Hearing for a hearing aid. I think she will be fine once she gets the grommits as we have caught it early, heres to hoping that her speech will be ok. It is still such a long road and it seems that there is always something new popping up, but I can see the end and I know that all she has is fixable. We are going to be referred for early intervention also next week so I think that our chances are really good as I am doing all I can to help her .
