    Second Skin suit

    Hi,
Has anyone else used a second skin suit for scoliosis?
My daughters school is starting the application process for her to get a suit.
Have other people found them easy or difficult to use?
    Has it been benificial?
Do you know anywhere to gain funding for it in victoria?? as a single mum currently depending on a carer pension due to her needs I am stressing about having to come up with the almost $2000 I have been told it will cost. I have been told to look into funding but have no idea where to start and we don't have a case manager.

    Hi

I had a second skin suit from fingers to shoulder as a young un. I can't remember how/if we got funding, but will ask my Mum. Maybe PADP? My suit was two pieces, and i found the glove bit (to elbow) much more beneficial and comfortable to wear. I was using mine for a different reason (sensory stuff), but they have a great reputation for lots of uses. They can be hot when worn in Summer, but you kinda get used to it.

Have you had other equipment funded in the last couple of years? I think The "Victorian Aids and Equipment Program" (formerly PADP) only fund something every 2 years. If you google, "Victorian Aids and Equipment Program", you can find more info.

Younger kids will also grow out of suits fairly quickly, especially full body ones. So, hopefully the funding people can talk about what happens with the next suit.

Independent Living Centres or an Occupational Therapist may be be able to give you more info on funding options.

Lions clubs or Rotary etc may also be able to assist.

    good luck

    Hi Kate,
    Thanks for the info.
    PADP doesn't fund them unfortunatly.
I will find contacts for our local lions/rotary clubs. Hopefully they will be able to help us out.

    Thanks

    Hi SJL

I spoke to Mum, and she thinks we got one grant from DHS, and another place, but she can't remember the names of the grants or the second place we applied. Sorry about that.

Have you spoken to the second skin people, or an Independent living centre? they may have more ideas for funding bodies.

    Thanks.

When we have our fitting appointment with secondskin I am going to discuss funding with them then. I am also catching up with the parents group from school soon and I know there is a few parents who should have some funding contacts.
