Sloane, my DS was nowhere near sitting unassisted at 6 months. I just propped him up in his high chair with a towel to keep him upright. After a couple of weeks he didn't need to be propped up in his chair anymore as the back of the chair is enough support for him. Even now at nearly 8 months, he's not sitting unassisted. I think it's just important that they are sitting upright (supported or not) rather than being reclined like in a bouncer or high chair.
