LJ, as the others have said, the guidelines on BLS recommend after 6 mths when you see certain signs of readiness (I've known of some babies on BLS who didn't start feeding themselves until even later than that and my DD was not interested for the first month or so either - so 7 mths). The advantage of BLS is that since your baby is feeding themselves there is no concern about whether internally their digestive system is ready or not, because they are setting the pace.
