Rice cereal, baha BLS babies don't need rice cereal!
starangelk, fish is excellent to offer coz they can chew it easily and it's so healthy. As for chips, well it's up to you whether you are ok with bub eating things like that once in a while. I personally never offer it, even if I'm eating it coz the way I see it, when she is older, it'll be much harder to stop her, so I'll avoid it while I can, coz it just has no nutritional value, I'd rather her fill up on just the fish.
DD definitely loves eating rice with her spoon, and spaghetti with her fork. I love seeing her use cutlery.
Hi all thinking of jumping in here.... DS is sooo keen to get the food we are eating I think he is almost ready to mung on some food other than boobie milk He is only 4.5 months and I am not too sure about him starting so early.... thoughts?
Hi Tanya The recommendation isn't to start until 6 months, I think partly because of the tongue thrust thing and partly because babies only need milk until this time. I started DD at 5 months but she had a month of mostly play and a tiny bit of eating but she really started getting into it at 6 months.
Thanks for the tips re fish. I made some tuna croquettes today and gave her one tonight, she seemed to like it but it mashed up in her hands and she got a bit over it and just focused on her greens instead. I am def going to give her fish next time we eat it. As far as chips go, we aren't massive chip eaters but mostly I make sweet potato ones at home so I would be happy to give her my home made sweet potato chips.
Tanya, I second what StarangelK said - the recommendation is 6 months for a variety of reasons, but BLS is all about following what the baby wants to do. My DS was hankering after our food from about 4.5 months, but we didn't let him have any until he was 5.5 months. I was serious about waiting until he was 6 months, but he was getting more and more frustrated watching us eat and not being allowed to join in, and our meal times were becoming stressful by refusing to give him any.
If you think your LO is ready, then it's up to you. Remember that watching you eat is not, of itself, an indication that they're ready for food themselves - they could watch you brush your hair, it doesn't mean they're ready for that But the beauty of BLS is that they get to enjoy the tastes/textures/smells/colours at their own pace, and as SAK said, chances are your LO won't be ingesting any solids until well past 6 months. Milk feeds are still sufficient at that age regardless.
AFM - DS is enjoying every meal. Tonight he shared our barbequed lamb, eggplant, tzatztiki and rocket, together with a chunk of lemon to suck on. The only thing we didn't let him have was the haloumi cheese, cause it's so salty. He's also recently enjoyed avocado, egg, pizza and all the cold meats at Christmas. We're raising a little foodie, me thinks
Hey Seph, did you feed DS egg yolk and egg white? I have been holding off on eggs because the MW told me to avoid them but there are SO many things I want to make that include eggs.
He had a chunk of boiled egg (both white and yolk) a few weeks ago, and then had a chunk of scrambled egg later. The other day DH gave him a toast soldier dipped in runny egg yolk which I wasn't too happy about because it wasn't cooked through, but so far we haven't had any issues - we don't have any allergies in our families though. I thought the only reason to hold off on egg was for potential allergy issues
Hmmmmm. I was totally up for giving DD egg until the MW said no. Apparently egg yolk is okay after 9 months and egg white after 12 months. I don't really know why. Off to google to find out....
