I don't eat any meat except for fish, and I don't cook it for DS either. I know it's not what you are asking Starangelk but there are lots of other non-meat foods which you can give instead. Chickpeas, I make hommus which he really loves on flat bread or toast, dried beans and lentils can be cooked in lots of ways, mushrooms, and eggs cooked a million different ways. I need to read about red meat though, I have been wondering if DS needs some or if we are ok going on as we are.

    Hi guys,
Just sticking my head in as i will be starting in a couple of months and want to refresh myself.

We did BLS with DD1 (been reading back over my posts in the first 2 chatter pages!) I am so looking forward to BLS with DD2, i loved the journey with MJ and although tonight was a disaster with her (normal 3 year old behaviour i suspect), she eats brilliantly and the people at her daycare comment on how well she eats and how she will give everything a go

Anyway - Hi, i will be randomly reading to refresh

    Mo2B - what ever you're eating, basically.

The often quoted "food is fun until they're one" is a good one to keep in mind, as you watch your little one play and mash and munch and spit and throw for the next few months ... but anything healthy that you're eating (unless it is a choking hazard) is all good.

DS particularly loved pasta, avacado, tuna, cheese, grapes (which I initially pulled in half for him) and chicken when he was very small.

Hi all, I just wanted to share with you how I made the most awesome veggie bake ever. DD <3's it and I can't wait to make it again.

I put 4 eggs, some garlic, cream and ricotta in a bowl. I also added extra milk powder because I was a bit freaked about DD's weight for a week there.
I cut potatoes, sweet potatoes and pumpkin in slices and layered them in a dish.
I then cut broccoli and cauliflower into slices and layered them on top.
I put the liquid mixture on top of the veggies and grated cheese on top.
Covered with alfoil and put in the oven for 1.5 hours.

The overall effect was that the veggie bake rose up like a quiche and stayed that way. When I sliced it, it was really thick and easy to slice in big chunks and tasted delicious. Def not the healthiest as it has cream, ricotta AND extra milk powder but great for DD with those extra fats.

    sounds great!

will have to try it ...

and I need some good slowcooker recipes - ones which you don't have to spend half an hour prepping and browning and everything first...

When I slow cook stuff I just skip the browning stage. I usually prep the insert the night before and shove it in the fridge until morning when I grab it out to put on the timer so don't like to heat things slightly and then cool down before actually cooking the next day.

Somewhere in the cooking sub-forum in the slowcooking threads I came across a nice sausage casserole - sausages, carrots, tom soup and a couple of other things (might not have the carrots listed as I like to chuck extra veg - whatever takes my fancy - in with my slowcooks). I cut the snags a bit (about in 1/3 while slightly frozen& just use reg BBQ size snags rather than the fat ones) before popping in. DS likes that one; DH isn't so keen mainly cause it's a bit on the blander side (ie not super spicy/hot) but still not a bad one. I think it might be Cailin who posted it up originally - I could be wrong. I'll see if I can find it and link here - it is by Cailin and it's in the second post down

    thanks ladies!

I used to cook two or three big batches of stuff (soups, casseroles, lasagne, chilli, curry, etc) on the weekend with a hug tub of prepped salads, and that would do us for the week ... but I've only done it a handful of times since DS arrived, and I seriously need to get my patushka back in gear ...

my slow cooker will do a lot of the work for me!!

I have a phobia about leaving the slow cooker on all day (say from 730am til 530pm) unattended! Am I the only one?? Mine doesn't have a timer... I do think it would be great to use it more now I'm working three days a week...

You could put it on when you go to bed and it would be cooked in the morning and then put the dish in the fridge for the day. You would just have to reheat when you got home.

Mine doesn't have a timer, I bought a digital timer to plug in between the slow cooker plug and the wall socket so I don't have to worry about over cooking stuff (It'd be on at about 7am to about 6pm otherwise - not so keen on that long a time unattended)

DH feels that way, but when I was growing up, we'd put the oven on for Sunday roast, then all go to church, and come home 2-3 hours later to a cooked dinner ...

so I'm not so fussed about a crockpot!

    but DH says no.

I am coming in to share a big woohoo! My DD has started not only letting me leave a bowl on the high chair table unsupervised but also feeding herself with a spoon from it! It's amazing. I love love love baby led solids. So many of my friends are still spoon feeding purees and here's my DD eating yoghurt with her spoon like a champ. She's also started stabbing at things with a fork and can easily find her mouth, it's just the stabbing she's having a bit of trouble with. Yay!

I'm very glad your DD is having difficulty stabbing

DS is working on the spoon, hasn't figured out the fork, but still very proud of him

but I was reading an article about feeding babies in a major baby mag, which referred to and then basically dismissed BLS as being wrong thinking with no scientific backing ... boo.
