    Clashes with Dog name?

    OK, this is really weird.

My DH and I could agree on a boys name, at about 9 weeks in. (We both just love a particular name). The girls name has taken quite some time to work out.

We've just agreed on the name: Darcey (or Darcie), not sure on the spelling yet.
I told my Mum and Dad, who thought it was lovely...but then Mum remembered that my cousins dog, which is a boy, is called Darcy. We've never seen this dog, never been to their house - they live in a remote location interstate that we'll most likely never visit. The dog is at least 8 years old.

    What to do????

My DH has also picked the middle name, which he loves, so it would be Darcey Catherine if a girl.
    Any thoughts?

I think that'd be alright If it was a pet you'd met and saw regularly I might think different, but given the circumstances I don't think the dog will mind

It wouldn't bother me if it was a dogs name.. Especially if you never saw it.. So many dogs have cool names these days

What do you think of the spelling?

    Darcey Catherine
    or
    Darcie Catherine

Love the idea of Fido LOL. ONe of our friends called their baby boy Oliver, which is the name of another friends dog. I'm still not used to that one myself.

I've known many animals with human type names- myself included. I once knew a cow named Rebecca...haha!

We've also had a similar issue with the name we have so far picked our boy due in February. My mum and dad had a dog called it just before I was born. So even though my mum's 1st thing she said when we told her our preferred name was 'that was our dogs name'- she still likes the name, but at the end of the day its up to us anyway.

So I say use it. Don't worry about it being someone else's dog name. If it helps abit too one of my friends named her baby girl Darcey just recently...its a pretty name.

To be harsh - the dog is old and won't be around much longer. In all likelihood your baby will never cross paths with it.

We adopted a greyhound and he came to us with the name Ben. Friends of ours were pregnant and had chosen Ben as their boys name (we didn't know this) and they named their son Ben when he was born as they figured in the long run it didn't really matter. 5 years down the track and they are right - it hasn't mattered at all

I would definitely NOT worry about clashing with the dog! Hey most names are probably someones dog somewhere?!
