    Amira?

    Hi Everyone!

As hubby & I are keeping the sex of our baby a secret, I have no way of asking friends and family what they think of the name Amira for our baby girl? (Pronounced A-meer-ra). As much as we don't want to have a 'common' or 'popular' name for our baby girl, the thought of choosing something not so common is making me a bit nervous! We have been through the baby name books over and over again and Amira was actually one of the names we both agreed on, we both really like it but I've never heard of anyone with that name before....!

    Thanks!!

    I think it's a beautiful name!

I don't know anyone personally with that name either.

    You should go for it.

We're like you and tend to swing away from the popular or common names.

I think it's a lovely name but if you move to an area with a large Arabic speaking community there will probably be a few other Amiras at her school and probably a few Amirs as well.

I love it too. I only know one Amira- she is 4. I would consider it for our bub except it is too similar to my DD's name.

I don't mind it, but I don't love it. What is the meaning?

One of my Indian friends just named her DD2 Amira. Her first is Sarina. She has a thing for "A"s, "I"s and "R"s apparently. Moving on...

As Onyx pointed out, it is more common in other cultures. I don't mind it.
