Smile Annabelle - What would it be shortened to? Nickname?

We are still deciding on names at the moment and we are having alot of trouble this time around and it is mainly because we are very aware of how the name with be shortened and therefore the nickname our DD will have, so...

    Annabelle

What is your first thought of the shortened version/nickname?

    Thanks!

there are two ways this name could be shortened- Anna and Belle. Well that's what i would think anyway.

    Anna
    Annie
    Bella
    Belle
    Bellie
    Elle
    Ellie

... I can't think of any really problematic shortenings. It's a beautiful name. Totally kwym about the concern around nicknames. DH and I really liked the name April but decided against it as I was so concerned that she would get called 'Ape'!!

My first thought would be to shorten it to Anna. But Bella is lovely too

I ended up going with Isabelle because I didn't want Annabelle shortened to Anna. Wouldn't have made any difference because I always call her by her full name, her friends call her Bella (yay for Twilight! ). It's not like Anna is a horrible name anyway, it's rather sweet.

I love love love Annabelle and sometimes wish I stuck with it, mainly since Isabelle went and got all trendy

In LONG - I'd say don't worry about either nickname because they are both lovely xoxoxo

Ok so heres the deal, I am such a picky picky person when I name my children I want them to be called the name I have named them, in full. If they have a nickname, I want it to be the nickname I have chosen, I completely understand that once friends get involved I will have absolutly no say as to what they are called but I was kind of hoping that I could drill the 'nice' nicknames into them before this happens .
So anyway, when we named Matilda we thought that it could not be shortened to anything that we did not like, but it did, and I hate it! So I am trying to avaoid this happening again.
However I love Annabelle but I am not much of a fan of 'Belle' or 'Bella', I think it is pretty but I do not want to use it and I have a funny feeling this is the first thing people will go for, I LOVE Annie though, I would love the name Annabekke, shortened to Annie if it must be shortened.

Ok I think I have got it all out. I am just being silly!

I found people followed my lead, I always called her Isabelle and others did too. WTF did people come up with for Matilda?

I call her Matilda, I never shorten it to anything but there are a fair few people on both sides of the family that call her Tilda, actually this is the only thing that people have ever shortened it to and I really do not like it but oh well.

Mind you I do not mind if her grandparents use it so much but it seems everyone does!

Oh jeez. Think I'd prefer Tilly over that. How hard can it be to stick a Ma at the start of it? lol

I know a little girl called Annabelle & it hasn't been shortened by anyone yet at 6.
I guess Annie or Belle would be the obvious ones. Ann, Bella, Anna. Don't think there are any others.

Yeah I really like the spelling Annabelle, but I think you are right, with the full spelling of Belle it is really putting it out there. I do like the name Belle, but I prefer not to name my child it if you know what I mean.

I LOVE Annie and it is part of my reason for choosing the name Annabelle as I think Annie is a bit incomplete and I do not DH would go for just Annie either where as Annabelle is really growing on him .

OMG I absolutely love annabelle!! DH thought it would be shorten to Anna and I thought Bella. I hate it how everyone always has to shorten names. People are at us at to what they can call William. I said how about William - you know his name!!

I adore the name Annabelle and would use it if I ever had another girl. I would shorten it to Annie, so cute! Though I have known two Annabelle's and both have been shortened to Bella. But in saying that I would think that people would follow your lead and call her what you would call her??
Other 'ana' name I love is Anneliese and one I heard not long ago and thought was pretty but different is Anazandra.

If you are persistent enough people should get the point. My DS is Alexzander & we have told people right for the start that he is not to be called Alex, it is Alexzander or Zander, nothing else. My FIL kept calling him Alex & we corrected him every single time until he just got sick of us correcting. I ignore any strangers calling him Alex & wait for them to use his full name, for example doctors are bad for assuming so if they call Alex I don't move (neither does he cos he doesn't realise ). People probably think I'm odd not answering but sometimes I just don't hear it, Alex is not my son LOL!

That said I know when he is older it is likely to happen but I'll deal with that then.

I did suggest the name Anneliese, DH liked it at first then said no.

BIL's DD is Ella and I hear them call her 'Ella Bella' so I am hoping that this is a good enough reason to say please do not call her Belle/a as her cousin is Ella.
Just like Matilda cannot have the nickname Tilli because she has a cousin Milli.

    Thankyou for your input everyone.
