Zeke always reminds me of the dog in the Gary Larson Far Side cartoons.
Oh cool! I forgot about him

I wonder how well the name Duke would go in the US anyway.
They're going to think we named our first son after a TV channel so I don't think we'll have much joy over there no matter what we choose

I wouldn't go with Baxter purely because I live reasonably close to the Baxter detention centre so when I hear it I see bright lights, razor wire and refugees and it gives me the squicks.

Yes! Whenever I hear Baxter, I think of the detention centre too. But I figure if someone has it on their name list, they dont know about Baxter Detention Centre or they aren't concerned about the connotation.
DH suggested it when I was preg with DS1 because we think the NN Bax is cute, but we couldn't get rid of the detention centre connotation, so we didn't use it.

Really? I hate the refugee detention centres with a passion I just don't know all their names. I would hope it will be closed soon and the name wont have that much meaning for long... but thanks for letting me know.

Thought I would add a few other names I love but have thought I couldn't use due to the sound etc. and see what you all think of those too...

Jonte Felix Kelsie- got the e-e name ending thing going on

Zeppelin Felix Kelsie- I LOVE Zeppelin... but because a good old school friend named her first son that. I guess I would have to check what she would think of me using it too? And it kind of feels like it's her son's name, not mine so maybe it's too weird to use a name a friend has used? She lives interstate and we're lucky to see each other every few years but we're in touch on FB etc.

    Zenith Felix Kelsie
    - getting too hippy maybe? I love the NNs Zen and Zenny though.

River Felix Kelsie- same deal that an interstate friend called her son this... and that was only a few weeks ago.

I like River but River Felix sounds like River Phoenix

True- hadn't thought about the middle name combo. It's too much. And I don't think I can do after my friend *just* called her son River.

I know a boy called Zeppelin too! His name is spelt with one P though. They call him Zepy. I imagine that people would constantly say 'are you a Led Zeppelin fan'? Also I have a vague memory of Zeppelin being the name of a military aircraft. May not be a good connotation.
I know a Zenith, but she is a she and an adult- and, funnily enough, a hippie! Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just thought I'd mention it as you asked whether it was 'too hippy'. Oh I do love the NN Zen. That is cool! Could you use Zen as a first name? Zen Felix Kelsie....
I wouldn't worry too much that your friend just used River, because it is quite a common name now. River Felix sounds kinda cute. And I loved River Phoenix...gorgeous- and a vegan! Although if you did use River Felix, you would have to deal with every second person saying something about River Phoenix!
I agree with your Jonte comments, too much e sound.

Have you thought about Felix as a first name? I love it! Then Zeke, then Baxter... I don't think the k k thing or the detention centre thing are show stoppers at all. Good luck

My friend's son has one p... wonder if it's the same boy?

Could you use Zen as a first name? Zen Felix Kelsie....
Nah-then it would rhyme with my name and be too similar.

Have you thought about Felix as a first name? I love it!
I already have two threads on Felix! I love it but I'm concerned it may be too popular now and doesn't really lend itself to nicknames.

I keep picking one name then changing my mind!

THAT would be funny! I don't think it is though, as you mentioned that it was your friend's *first* son. The Zepy I know has an older brother.

Have you come any closer to a decision?

    I like Zeke
Not keen on Baxley, but Bexley maybe?

I dont think the 'n' thing with names is an issue at all.

    How about Brecken?

    No!!!!

Sending me mental. I keep deciding 100% on a name for a day then the next day is sounds all wrong. I keep coming back to Felix in my heart but then my brain rationalises it away. Making a short list now and waiting for baby. Once the paperwork is lodged I'll just have to live with it!

Yesterdays pick was Grover. Still like it but really concerned about the strong Sesame Street thing... Oscar doesn't seem to have those issues though

    ooh what about Zephyr?

That was on our list for DS2 but we went with something else.

    Clay?
    Avery?

I love Felx though, its an awesome name.

If your heart says Felix, then maybe that's what it should be? What is your brain saying? I think that our brains aren't always the best judges anyway.

I think you are right about Oscar, it seems to have transcended the Sesame Street connotation. Maybe because it is quite common now? I don't know any Grovers personally, so I immediately think of the Sesame Street Grover (and isn't he cute!). I was thinking about the name Sylvester the other day. I like the nickname Sy. But when I hear Sylvester, I just think of the cat! But I am sure that is because I do not know any 'real life' Sylvesters.

What other names have you been liking this week?

I immediately think of Sly of the Underworld/John Sylvester (wrote Underbelly) when I hear that name
