Interesting thoughts here - if Miss M was a boy - we were tossing up the middle name of August - because it was my grandfather's middle name. So because she was born in August, if she had been a boy - it might have turned me off using it IYKWIM??

Arimeh - i think that's the exact thought process i have - even though the REASON you want it isn't related to their birth, it messes with you because you just have that feeling that people will draw the wrong conclusions!

naming kidlets is sooo hard - they're stuck with the name - and any repercussions, for a bloody long time!

I think people would have automatically thought you had chosen it for the month your baby was born - and wouldn't have given the meaning a second thought. I guess that's the problem with some of these names - people are so quick to judge!!!

I wouldn't. But only because I'm just not into Month or Season names much.
We got heaps of jokes about what our first kid's name would be, being due so close to Christmas. Some suggestions were Holly, Noel, Carol, Chris etc. People were just poking fun though.
As it turns out, Natalie means Christ's Birth so we kind of did go with the season LOL! DH and I had always liked Natalie though.

Summer was our chosen girls name had DS been a little girl and I it was just coincidence that the baby was due in December. We chose the name because we loved it, not because of when it was due. We are also thinking of keeping it as a back up for this baby too in case it is a girl and this baby is due on 15th March (which isnt Summer but it could come a couple of weeks early).

My cousin is also called April and she is born in November and I dont think much is ever said to her about it .....

My Mum's name is June. She has often been asked if she was named that because she was born in June and the usual response is 'No, named June, born in July'. As has been said, people are quick to assume.

I always thought being named after your month (April, May, June) was boring & unimaginative, but when the names are a bit different I like it.
I like August, Autumn, Summer, January, Sunday. Those sort of names.

Our DD Gabriella was due on and born the 23/12. Knowing what her due date was and not knowing the sex we decided we wanted to incoporate a "christmasy" feel about her name.

For boys we looked at Nicholas, Christopher, Joshua (interestingly enough a derivative or Jesus) and Gabriel. Girls names were Natalie/Natalya, Natasha (my sisters name), Holly (which we just didnt really like) and Gabriella.

In the end she came out black hair, black eyed, olive skinned, and as we are European Gabriella was the right fit for her. So she was named after the archangel Gabriel who announced the birth of Jesus.

So yes she was named after a particular time of year. Upon saying that I dont think I would necessarily name a child June, May, Summer, Autumn etc as for me they are too literal.

I guess it comes down to personal choice and being able to deal with negative comments. I don't think anyone can win when it comes to naming a baby - there will always be someone out there with something nasty to say!

This is exactly what I was going to say! I would advise you name your gorgeous bub WHATEVER you like regardless of what other people think. People will always have opinions no matter what. AS long as you are happy, thats all that matters

I love the name Holly (spelt Hollie though) as a middle name, so if we fell pregnant again and it was a girl born in December, she'd probably be Aislinn Hollie.

I had a bit of a giggle at my MIL though. When she found out we were expecting just before Christmas (and it was even funnier considering Maddy was 10 days late and born on Christmas Eve), she suggested jokingly that if it was a girl we should name the child after her nickname - Chrissy. *L*

See if I had a bub due on Australia Day or ANZAC day I would probably want to give them a real "Aussie" name for that reason. Weird.. I wouldn't do it for any other month/holiday.

My two year old is a May baby ... we never thought for a moment of having MAY amongst her middle names ... but then that's cause we already had too many middles to choose to put in there

I like the fact that she is a Saturday baby ... I always think of Saturday as a Party day/night fun person

As you guys know, my name is Holly - was born in April, and my name had nothing at all to do with Christmas.

My parents flew to Tasmania for a holiday on a helicopter and my mum was pregnant with me - there was a little girl who was lost before they got on the helicopter, and my parents sat with her while the poice found her parents.. her name was Holly, and my parents loved it when they heard it.
Thats why I'm a Holly.

I can tell you, though - don't let it be an issue when you name your baby - I cop the Christmas jokes ALL the time - it seems they can never get old, even after 31 years

People sing 'The Holly & The Ivy', and say 'Ooh, I bet you were born in December?'... eerr no, actually, Christmas had nothing to do with it

I think people will always think that way regardless.. so if you like May & she's born in May... then call her May I say
