I didnt really mind, but I didnt think Freya could really be shortened, but she gets Frey or Frey Frey all the time from me or friends. She doesnt have a nickname yet
With DD we started with the nickname - CJ and chose names to give us those initials. But although I write CJ alot we call her Cerys far more than I thought we would. No one seems to have found a way to shorten that. She is probably called Buster about 40% of time but we don't refer to her as buster is only when talking directly to her, no idea where buster came from but seem to call DS that a bit too - to which DD says "he not buster he buddy I am buster". DS is Stirling which gets shortened to Stirlo very occasionally which I don't mind also don't mind Lingy if later on people shorten that way. So we did check out shortenings first to confirm ok with them all.
We named our DS R0bin because we thought it suited wherever he could end up and he could always be Rob by his mates when he is older. However his little friends have already shortened it to a name we both said we wouldn't shorten it to! They can only say R0bbie and I just so hope it isn't going to stick!!!
Yes, my son is Daniel but I always wanted him to be called Danny, and that's all we use and I always tell people that he goes by Danny. Unfortunately his daycare didnt seem to catch on and call him Daniel - sometimes he tells me his name is Daniel and his little sister (who goes to the same daycare) often call him Daniel too! You really can't win.
We started with the nickname (finn) and worked our way to his full name (Finnian) as we felt that Finn didn't really go with his middle name Paul, a family name DH HAD to have. Occasionally people try to call him Finny, which I detest, and I set them straight immediately. He does haveother nicknames, we often all him Mr Finnegan begin-again, like the nursery rhyme, but when people ask his name we say Finn.
Well my ex wanted to use the name Jim, but he didn't say why. I found out later there's a veteran in the family who's name is David but he goes by Jim, and another Jimmy as well (big Aboriginal family on ex's side).
Anyway I always said, look we'll put James on the birth certificate but we'll call him Jim. So his name is James Ewen, Ewen after my father and brother's middle name. It also taken in both parents first names as his initials - J and E.
Also I used ex's surname as that makes bub's initials J-E-T which is pretty cool.
Also lots of James in both extended families, mine and the ex's.
My kids names are all shortened by us, though other people tend not to shorten them. I didn't name them with the intention to shorten their names though, that just happened, lol. Though I have no issues with them being shortened. If the kids decide they want to be called something in particular, then it is up to them. When I introduce them, I say thier full names (L ily-Lil, L iam- Li and C aelan- Cae). I also often call them by their first and second names at home.
DD1's 'proper' name is Katrina but it seemed too grown up when she was a baby and we started calling her Kittykat on the way home from the hospital. We soon shortened that to Kitty, to the point where we NEVER call her Katrina. We do tell her that her proper name is Katrina and she can decide what she wants to be called.
DD2's name is Gabriella which we always shorten to Gabbie. But we interchange that with "Babba" - not sure why, just seems to suit her. And now I've started calling her "Little Bab".
Nope, kind of believe you name a child what you want to call them. We didn't think you could really shorten Parker, but of course the 3-5year old cousins came up with Parky... although DH's father calls him PKR
DS1 is Cooper and has always been called coops, Coopy, Coopy-j or Coopy James
DS2 (not even born yet) his name is Daylen Benjamin and he's already getting Daily and Daily-b
So far my kids names haven't been shortened which I like cos the shortened version of Bethany so doesn't suit her and u cant really shorten Flynn (although he gets Flynnie from some which I HATE) Our next bub will probably have its name shortened if it suits though cos both names we have chosen sound nice shortened
We chose DS's name because we liked both the long and shortened version. We had planned to call him by the shorter name but never have so I don't mind if other people do. His friends always shorten his name.
My two DD's names can't be shortened but people always seem to lengthen DD1's name. You can't win, can you?
