Do name meanings play a part for you?

Just wondering if the meaning of a name plays a big part of you choosing that name? It didn't really for my DS (his name is Bailey) and that means bailiff or something LOL. I just really liked that name.

So was just wondering what others thought of the 'meaning' behind the name, or if that doesn't really matter? With this bub, I've found myself looking at the name meanings a lot as well as the names....

Nope not at all, I always pick names I like then look at the meaning for a bit of fun but it's never changed my opinion of a name.

The only thing that has changed my mind is if I've known multiple people with a particular name and all those people are been nasty/annoying/etc.

I go with the name if I like it, but if it had a horrible meaning then it would probably turn me off it. DS and Dd2's names have meanings (and DD2 lives up to hers) but DD1's name doesn't have any meaning

For my next bub I have chosen a name with meaning although it was totally unintentional and it's a perfect meaning too.
    That's a girls name.....

For my DS Hubby and I had his name picked long before he was due and agreed on the beginning to such a unique and made up name, it totally suits him too....

Looking for a boys name, that I like that means something will be hard, so we will probably just make up or pick another odd name

For me only if it's a negative meaning! I was considering the name Cameron, but it means "crooked nose"!! So that eliminated that off the list!

I choose by the sound of what I like and how it fits with the family names, but then would rule out something based on meaning after that.

I picked the names first and it wasnt until after they were born I found out what they mean

It did mean something to us. But mainly because we were tossing up on just a couple that we liked and the meaning of Lucy tipped it over the edge as the favourite. It means light/bringer of light, and we loved the idea that our little girl was going to be our ray of sunshine.

I do check names before choosing, but like others say, often to rule out some, or make sure the ones we like don't have horrible meanings.

For me it has a bit, with my 3rd we were tossing between Morgan and Darcy...the I found out Morgan meant "by the sea" and we had just moved literally by the sea before he was conceived, so that clinched it for me...

For #2 i found out Finnlay meant blond haired warrior and it suited him completely...

I also liked Griffen but that meant something like hook-nosed man so that turned me off a little bit! It's stilll on the list for #4 though

I really really wanted the meaning to be important. Like I wanted it to mean miracle but at the end of the day I just didnt like those names and DD was named because we just loved her name

DH would only consider names that had an appropriate meaning. It was actually really annoying, lol.

    My DD is Charlotte Claire.
Charlotte = little, womanly and Claire = bright

It didn't really play a part, but if it meant something horrible, then I probably wouldn't use it unless I LOVED the name...
