I think the spelling you have is traditionally for a boy Emmerson - meaning 'son of' but I also know of a little girl whose spelling is Emmersen. I like the name for both boy and girl regardless of the spelling.
My friend has a girl Emerson so because of that im more inclined to think girl but its really an either or.
I always liked it but where we used to live it was the name of a main street in town so that put me off.
My 4 year old daughter is Emmerson, she gets Emme as a nickname, her name suits her.
Ive always seen it as girly name, but my husband worked with an Emerson who was in his early 30s, so my husband see it a boys name.
my baby girls name is Emerson, we struggled to choose a name for number 4 and after months of trying to find the 'perfect' name we came accross Emerson, which I had seen before as a friend had a little boy called Emerson but it just had never crossed my mind to use it for a girl, but when I read it out from a name site both myself and hubby just loved it, it just felt 'right' so we called her Emerson, and we just love it, its funny though as Medicare and the doctors office both assumed Emerson was a boy so had to fix that up asap, so I think traditionally it is a boys name but I just love it for both genders!!
