    Genevieve?

I am seeking opinions on the name Genevieve.
I'm not sure if the name is 'us', itms? But at the same time, I have always liked the name.

I am concerned, however, about the name being shortened to Gen by others. We have a Jem, so Gen and Jem are just too similar.
For people who have - or know- a Genevieve, what nicknames do you use?
    Thanks.
(BTW, we don't know the sex of our baby).

We had that name set in stone until a week ago when we found another. I love it! use it! I have never met one and we were going to use "jenna" for short as we loved that name too.

I do like Jenna. Not keen on Gen/Jen or Jenny but Jenna is lovely.

That is my 18 yr old cousins name. It is rarely shortened by the family but I believe a few of her friends call her Gen.

I've always loved Genevieve. It's such an elegant name. Nai's DD1 suits it too.

Sadly, not allowed by DH. Our niece is a Jena, so apparently it wouldnt work. I think they're completely different.

Nai, it seems as though your Genevieve has had a positive impact on a lot of people.

I am liking the nicknames Vievey and Evie- and they sound nothing like Jem. Genna is ok too, kind of similar to Jem but maybe different enough? Vieve is cute too.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your input.

I love it but I think people will tend to shorten it to Gen. You can remind them but it does get tiresome. My DD is Emily, Not Emi. But some people just don't listen.

I love it, I also like the nn Evie for it. You just don't allow ppl to shorten it to Gen, pull ppl up on it if they do and tell teachers etc not to shorten it!

My daughter's name is Genevieve but i spelt it Genavieve because i didn't want her getting jenny. She rarely gets it shortened & we never do .I guess when she is older she could have Gena or Genna but since she is autistic i doubt she would accept that anyway I think sometimes a teacher might say Gen but not often.
