Koby to me has always been a girls name.
Ok, so the only name DF and I half agree on for a girl is Koby. I went searching for the meaning tonight and all the baby name sites say Koby is a boys nameI honestly thought it was a girls name. What do you think? When you hear it do you immediately think boy? I know there is a female on here and she is called Koby IRL..
Koby to me has always been a girls name.
I know Boys and girls with the name.
Boys I know are Coby, Kobe and Koby.
Girls I know spell it Koby and Kobie.
Hope that helps bit.
I'm really searching for the meaning. Would the meaning be different? It means "He who supplants" Would it then mean "She who supplants"?
ETA: i don't like the meaning..
A girl I went to school with was coby!
Sent from my iPhone, more than likely while I should be doing something else!
my cousin has a son Koby so first thought is boy but its nice as either.
I have a friend with a DD Cody which is also boy or girl.
some name means just dont really mean much where as other really say a lot about a name dont they
We had a similar problem with a name on our shortlist for DS2. Same meaning, weirdly, which I did not think was appropriate for us so we excluded it.
GL
ETA - I found 2 meanings. The first one is a derivative of Jacob which means supplanter. The name we liked, Jake, is also from Jacob so that's why the same meaning. The 2nd one is a German boy's name meaning dark haired.

For me its an instant girl, only because i know a very lovely Koby IRL
The meaning is kinda weird for you BAL, but I only know it as a girls name.
i automatically think of a boy as one of my friends has a boy named kobi, and a school friend had a brother named Khobi.
Its both for us in this house, I think it depends on the middle name (if one is given) that would masculanise it or not (does that make sense??)
Do you know how badly I wanted it to have a nice meaning.. Same as Tashybabe, it just doesn't feel appropriate. *Sigh.. I'm glad I have a while to decide.. Why are girls names so hard?
Also Tashybabe Button's older brothers name is Jacob, so that would mean their names would mean the same?
BAL - yes, same meaning. Which may not in itself be a problem. Just the circumstances. For us, name meaning was important too but we put more emphasis on what suited baby. But a name with a 'negative' meaning was ruled out. Both times now we've come up with shortlists, have favourite names for ages, then choose a last minute contender once we meet baby. Though for DS2, he responded to me playing him 'hey Jude' by kicking up a storm, so we feel he chose that name himself![]()
You've got lots of time. Just keep updating lists. Baby will end up a name eventually
I had a huge girl name list I can give you if you like. I found boys' names harder.
I have known both, for the girl though her name was spelt Coby
It's strange I didn't really pay much attention to meaning when I named the twins, and I guess it doesn't really matter what the name means, but out of all things it could mean it means that!! As soon as I read it I didn't like it at all! Boy names I find easy. I like heaps of boys names.![]()
I first thought boys name until I worked with a female koby IRL. Good Luck
I only know of one Koby and it's my friend's son so to me I think boy. However, it does make a great girls name.
The meaning is ordinary though. I'll check my baby names book shortly and see what it says.
ETA: it's only in the boys section in my book and neither versions have meanings. Jacob, however, has the meaning you mentioned earlier so I guess that's why. Jacob was (is?) on our list but I hadn't considered the meaning (yet) but I'm not fond of it either!
Koby - Polish, diminutive of Jacob
Coby - English, diminutive of Coburn or Jacob
