I think Otto is a gorgeous name. I dont know the book you're referring to. The otter thing wouldn't faze me, as they're one of my favourite animals. Cheeky, ingenious, curious, clever, beautiful. I used to love watching them at the zoo. The way they dance through water is delightful to watch.

L&B - Arlo has a couple of possible meanings. If it is derived from the old English Harlowe, it means 'hill'. It is also said to refer to a Barberry tree. I like the 'nature' name aspect. My other boys have nature names.
He is an Aquarius born in water during a big period of rainy weather in our region (and I have a water themed name) but he didn't end up with a water name.
