How did you choose the middle name ?

We went with meanings. So B lake V incent A talik means 'dark' and 'conquering' 'like his father'. Was tough thinking up three names with good meanings for each child though. If I had of known I would have five boys I would have stuck with two

DS (Thor Stefan) is named for his great grandfather (Thor) and his grandfather (Stefan). We wanted Icelandic names (DP's heritage) which are pronounceable and spellable in English, and Icelandic custom is to re-use family names as well.

We used family names for DS and DD1, DD2 has DH's middle name. I also gave them my maiden name as a middle name.

DS - named after DH's favourite basketball player
DD1 - she has two - first one is a name that both of us liked during my pregnancy, and then the other one is my middle name
DD2 - has two as well - first one is my mum's first name, second one is MIL's middle name
DD3 - has two (sensing a pattern?) - first one is DH's grandmother's first name, second one is my grandmother's first name

For DS, his is the same as DF's. Little bit of tradition, all boys on DF's fathers side have the same middle name (inc brothers).

But if this next baby is a boy, we will be breaking that tradition. I feel (and DF agrees) my family is just as important to represent, so if we have another boy he will get a name from my side. Likely my late Pa's name. They will already share sirnames so they dont need to share a middle name too imo. Both middlenames will be just as important to us as the other. Not sure how MIL & FIL will react lol, but I honestly dont care as I will just throw at them "are you honestly so arrogant to think that YOUR family is more important than mine?" Well maybe not so harshly lol, but the last bit definitely.

We chose family names for middle names too.

DS has a name from DH's family so DD's name comes from my family.

We chose names with special meanings. DD1s middle name means "a gift" which, after our journey to have, was very fitting. DD2s middle name is the name of the street where my ILs bought their first house. We wanted to include them but couldn't use their names, so that was a special way to do it.

Ours was about flow. Both DD's have a 2 syllable 1st name, a 1 syllable middle name and a hyphenated surname

Purely on the intial we wanted started with that and went from there. As middle name is so rarely used wasnt that fussed with name just had to have right intial. DD we wanted CJ - so that dictated first and middle we found the C but for the J couldn't come up with anything so like in the Simpsons apparently we went with Jay for the J. DS once had first name I wanted initials SAM (have always had a thing about intials being names) - so looked for A names that went ok and picked my Grandad name Arthur. If DD first didn't suit her so well I might have regrets because no one here knows how to say it and I had not appreciated that fact - but matters less with middle names.

My girls' middle names are both for family family.
Paige is my granmother's maiden name (Page). She died 5 days after I was born and she never met me.
Diamond is my mother's maiden name. I wanted to use one of her names, but since she didn't really like either of her names herself, it seemed strange to pass them on to my daughter! So we used her maiden name instead, although I think most people seem to think it is all a bit Hollywood.
