How many girls do you know called...

    Ella or Jessica

I still have quite a substantial 'short-list' but these are 2 of my favourites. I was dismayed to discover that they are both in the top 10 most popular for 2007. So what are the chances that my daughter will be in kinder with 3 other girls named Ella? Are they everywhere?!

I know two Ellas and a Jessica - and I really don't know that many kiddies - so yeah - the chance is quite high that your daughter would be "Ella P". But if you love the name then go with it anyway. I am guessing that you are a Katherine - there were 7 of those in my year 12 class - we all coped!

Two Ella's and no Jessica's- and I know a lot of babies!

I agree, Ava is hugely popular atm. So are 'elle' names (Giselle, Estelle, etc)

One of my friends just had a baby & called her Jessica. I haven't heard alot of Jessicas or Ellas around here though.
I say if you love it then take the chance! We had DD's name chosen for 7 years before we had her & after having her heard that it was a popular name all of a sudden. We have only come across one other Brianna (in my mothers group funnily enough, so 5 weeks after she was born I thought they were going to be everywhere!) She is almost 4 now, we'll see when she goes off to school how popular it was but I honestly dont care.... I love the name & it suits her to a T!

I know only one Jessica and she is 17. I know it was a very popular name for girls in the 90's.

I know of about 3 Ellas who are aged under 5. But I know that I commonly hear it being called out in parks and shopping centre's. I think it is quite a popular name where I live.

I think Jessica is a beautiful name. My 17 year old neice gets called Jess, and it sounds really lovely.

A friend of mine just had a baby girl this afternoon and called her Ella and I work with a girl called Jessica but other than that no one else I have known.

At the end of the day they are both beautiful names and I say go with what you want.

Thanks everyone! It seems that more of you have come across Ellas (which hubby likes less anyway). We love Jessica as we also like the shortenings Jess and Jessie. Ultimately, as several of you have said, we will go with what we like, and what feels right with bubs.

AT my current day care (SW Bris) 3 Jessicas; 2 staff, 1 [adorable!] child. No Ellas
At last day care (Inner East Melb) 1 Jessica, 1 Ella
At the one before that (Inner South Melb) 1 Jessica, 4 Ellas.

So, even though the stats say they're super-common, I actually think you're pretty safe with either.

At one place that had 2 Ellas, they were referred to as Ella-Grace and Ella-Rose, their middle names, rather than "Ella A" and "Ella B" (which I HATE!)

I know two Ella's under the age of 5 and one Jessica . I definitely see the name Ella around more than I do Jessica, though I do love the name Ella!
