    How popular is Felix?

I'm pretty keen on using the name Felix but I think it's rising in popularity. Last baby I wanted to call Jasper but it shot up in popularity and entered the top 100 in 2009 so I'm kind of glad we didn't use it as I prefer more unique names.

It's really hard to get good info on the popularity of names in Australia. Best I can see is that it wasn't in the top 100 names for NSW in 2009. In the states it seems to be increasing in popularity but babynamewizard still has it at about the 250th name. Nameberry says it's one of their most searched names- meaning it should shoot up in popularity.

So I'm going for a purely opinion based survey here- what do you think? Do you think it's fairly popular, or likely to become so soon?

    I have known a few.

Last year was a Felix in DS1 swimming class.

Personally I see it as a cats name sorry

I hear that a lot so I'm hoping that keeps it's popularity at bay

I liked Felix the Cat and I don't mind the association at all.

OCBA - Top Twenty Names of 2009 gives you the top names for SA by year, there's probably one for each state. There's quite a few sites that rank by popularity.

I'm the same as you - trying to avoid popular names or ones that might get popular soon. Nothing worse than being one of 5 kids in a class with the same name.

    I LURRRRVE FELIX!!!
I think its a strong and funky name. I would love to call DS2 Felix but i already have a Oscar people assosiate it with Oscar the Grouch.\
and if i have a Felix i can just imagine Felix the Cat! To much of a 'theme' i think.
    Good luck xx

.... well i'm a tad bias as my handsome 15year old nephew is a Felix

i have to say when he was born he did get a few books with Felix the Cat !!

i've only known one other Felix & he is 4years old.

if you feel you really love Felix & you yourself haven't come across many even now i would name your bub Felix
(just a thought maybe check the birth column in your local paper every week to get a little of an idea if the name is becoming popular where you live).

Hmm... this is all helping!! Thank you

I *think* it's one of those names that it's not unusual to hear and sounds familiar but there are not a whole lot of Felix's out there. I've only met one myself, but I do hear of friend's children who know a Felix. It seems like everyone knows one, but not many more.

I LOVE the name Felix - it's my godson's middle name (a family name for them). I don't think it is a name that is likely to become overly common because of the association with Felix the cat, but is one that people are 'comfortable' with because most people have heard it. Great name!
