Ah-ya
Ah-ree-ya
Yeah for me I'd say Are-ya
'Arya N.' has racist connotations that most people would prefer to avoid, I would imagine.
I pronounce the name in the book the same way as 'Aria' meaning song, ie with three syllables. I think it's a beautiful name.
Definitely Are-yuh. I wouldn't have thought to look at it any other way, weird. If you spelt it Aya, I would say ay-ah (as in heya without the h)
Lol M
I quite like Aya - if you want Ah-ya then Aya is definitely the way to go. I saw it and went Ah-ree-ah.
Or Aria. But of course in Australia that has music connotations...Dunno.
When I read GoT, I've pronounced it like Aria. It's a pretty name.
I have a Persian friend whose son is called Arya (pronounced Ar-yee-ah). Ārya is an ancient Sanskrit word used by Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists. I think it's most commonly a boys name although can be a girls name also with this spelling.
Im not sure if its because im a Kiwi but when I see the name I say it A ry ( like Rye ) a. Nobody else seems to see it like this so maybe im just a wee bit strange haha
