Isabella was something like the eighth most popular girls' name in 2009 My son was going to be Isabelle if he was a girl, and we may still use that name for our first girl Actually, we had the same concern re: Twilight, hence why it was definitely going to be Isabelle and not Isabella

Really, if you like it then use it. In 10 years no-one will really remember Twilight and they'll be onto the next big thing

Thanks very much for the feedback. It's very hard to choose a name isn't it! We really do love the name and now that the baby is getting closer we are becoming set on it again.

The other girls name we like is Lucia (Lu Chee A). Does anybody have an opinion on this name? I have a feeling it may be down to those two.

Thanks again for your help. We have been keeping the names to ourselves so it is refreshing to hear other opinions

Personally Isabella is too popular for my tastes, but it is a gorgeous name. I wouldn't worry about the Twilight connection at all- passing fad.

I love Lucia. But I think you'll find many people will pronounce it Lu-cee-a at first or ask her to spell it when they hear it. Our son's name is the same so I'm not suggesting you don't use it- just a heads up

my youngest is Bellah and not named because of twilight named well before i heard of twilight! I wanted Isabella but DH didnt want her getting called Izzy so we settled on Bellah. I believe you should go with a name you love not because of what movie it is or isnt in, from what i have experienced you are always going to get questions/comments on the babies name regardless of what you pick.
Good luck and best wishes for the birth of your baby

We were going to call my DD Isabella, but decided there were too many Isabella's around so we changed it to Arabella

My DD was nearly an Izabela, but DH wasn't too keen, so we chose a different name. I think Isabella (or any other spelling of it) is a beautiful name and only a very small percentage of the population will associate it with Twilight. Whatever name you pick, someone will always think you chose it for a reason that you didn't. (e.g. my DD is Diana and so many people think she is named after the Princess - she isn't). So if you love it, go for it. Otherwise, you could try a variation on the meaning. Isabel is the Spanish version of Elizabeth, so you could try one of its variations, e.g. Lisa.

    Good luck.

I reckon go with what you love. Isabella, although popular, is a lovely name. And you're the one who's going to have to say it approximately a million times in your life. I also LOVE Lucia. Good luck deciding!

I am about to name our third daughter(she is 6 weeks old!) and I googled popular names. Isabella was number one in Australia for 2009. Not because of that show, names just have runs, I know quite a few, but spread out in ages not a cluster of newborns named Isabella.
If you love it, and it suits her, do not let anyone turn you off it. When I had my second daughter we named her Coco we got given so much flack off friends and family, AND then Courtney Cox had a baby named Coco about a month later, so people thought we were copying the stars, even though our baby was born before!!! The naming game is personal, between you, your wife and your yet to be born baby. Go with your heart, and what people think will be yesterday's news before you know it.
    Blessings for your birth!
