Hi RhiChiChi
We are not Italian so we chose the name because we love it. She is named after my sister Lucy and my wife's sister Charlotte. (Lucia Charlotte)
However my wife does have Italian in her family. Her great grandmother on her fathers side was called Angelina Lucenti and she was from the Bay of Naples.
We had never heard of the song Santa Lucia until some family members mentioned it when we named her, when i listened to the song and researched it is a traditional Italian song about the waterfront district called Santa Lucia in the Bay of Naples! Maybe it was meant to be
Oh yes and Lucia means 'Light' and she was born in Sydney during Sydney's Festival of Light
So happy for you and your wife SB!!
Enjoy your new little bundle, and such a beautiful name.

Top Australian baby names 2009 good thing you went with Lucia, seems Isabella was the most popular Australian girl's name of 2009, and 5th most popular in SA in 2009With good reason though, its a pretty name. But you'd scream out "Isabella!" in a supermarket and a flock of little girls would come running at you!
We're still trying to choose a name for ours, due in a few weeks so I feel your pain. We're strictly choosing non-popular names - if we think of something and it is in the top 50, it gets culled. At the moment I live in a small town so there aren't many duplicate names within an individual class, but I swear EVERY name in the top 20 both male and female is in the Kindergym class, and again in my daughter's class at school.
CONGRATULATIONS on the arrival of Lucia! I just read all your posts & it seems that the name is perfect for your little one. You never know, Isabella might be the name of your next one ;P
