I have come up with one that DH has been thinking about. Its different but I love it, not to mention every time I say the name she wiggles about. The name is Willow.
So DH says "I have been thinking about it and its an OK name but I am worried she will get Willie for a nickname"
I didn't even think of that ... it doesn't change my mind on the name but I said she could also get Lolo or Will.
Its that sooooooo bad? I knew an older lady who called herself Willie, her name is Wilhelmina.
There is a girl at kindy called Willow, and she gets called....Willow! If people try to shorten it just correct them with the full name and they should take the hint. A couple of people have tried to call my DS (William) Willie and I shoot it down straight away.
I love the name willow but DH thought it would go better with a second DD (if we have one) But I personally adore it and honestly if I knew someone named Willow, I would call her that, it's to pretty to shorten so I think if you love it go for it and as Art said above, correct people if it comes up
Sorry, but I can't see her getting called Willie... Maybe teased, but really I don't think there is a name on this planet that doesn't have some sort of possibility of someone teasing them about it. And like Artechim said, you can always correct people. But I think you'll find that if you started calling her Lolo (or whatever) other people would pick up on that and that would become her nickname iykiwm?
Anyway, just wanted to say I think it's gorgeous and fits beautifully with both your DD's names.
never thought of wllie or lolo. Will is a possibility but wouldnt that be from her close friends? Willa is a nickname I thought a willow would get, and honestly I quite like either as a first name!
I know 3 little Willow's (starting to become quite a popular name!) and none of them have ever been called Willie, nor have I ever even thought about calling them Willie.. It's not really a shortening I suppose as it's just as quick to just say Willow??
I've never thought about shortening it either (not that Willie is really shorter). Willow is lovely.
My brother's name is Christian and he's managed to go 26 years without it ever being shortened to Chris. My mum tried but dad wouldn't have it and my brother has always corrected anyone who's called him Chris. People are generally pretty respectful when it comes to nicknames.
One of my girlfriend's daughters is called Willow, never heard it shortened to Willie even when they were living in Japan and both of them got cutsie nicknames.
If it suits tummybunny once she's out, I say go for it.
