Lewis & Luca - too Similar?

We have a DS Lewis and like Luca for our second boy. Are they too similar or do they go well together?

hhmmmmmm, to be completely honest...i think they're too similar.

we have a Lewis as well, and he gets called Lulu, Louie, Loo...all sorts of L variations ....so i would avoid anything that was too similar with the L kinda sound iykwim? with ds2 we went for something completely different sounding starting with the letter J.

I think so because they could both be called Lou as a nickname.

DS2 is also a Lewis, and he gets Lewie and Lew all the time. Like Mrs Mac said I think given Luca could be shortened to Lou it might get a bit confusing.

I guess it depends on how much you really love the name.

I would think that Luca would be shortened to Luke too...Lou and Luke...cute!!

My two get shortened to Lil and Li. I think of it in terms of the future. When my kids are grown up and thier own people (not that they're not now....but I mean moved out of home, etc) I don't think they're going to be worried about the fact that their names are similar sounding. I did think about them sounding similar and getting them confused, but I don't. I get their cousins names mixed up with theirs more than I confuse their names, and their cousins are Ashley and Justin! I love their names and that's all I'm worried about now!

I think they are too similar as others have allready said the nicknames could be the same.

I come from a family of three girl's and all our names start with " L " but our names are very different to each other ... even the nicknames couldn't be the same

... I don't think nicknames are so much an issue but i'm sorry to say yes the two names do sound similar to a certain degree (i have to say i love Luca).

Are you in favour of a " L " name for a boy ??? ... Only reason i ask is cause i'm crazy about " K " boy names, lol

We aren't consciously looking for another L name, we just seem to get drawn to them! Even girls L names are lovely IMO.

How about Lewis and Luke? then Luke wouldn't have Lou as a nickname? Lewis doesn't get called Lewi or Lew at the moment but then he is only 2!

I'm just trying to work my way round it, deep down I know they are too similar but I love the name!

    Wink

... yeh Lewis & Luke doesn't sound so similar but still has that familiar ring about them together (so sorry )

Can we all here help you with some " L " boys names ?? ... You never know someone might mention something that will really work together with Lewis (just an idea).

Sarah, i have to give you credit my DP & i couldn't even agree on a boy's name right up until i went into labour ... yep, we had NO boy's name, not even a middle name ... so your doing better than i did

You guys are the only ones who need to be happy with your baby names... I did get tongue tied reading your post though and my brain defaults to Lucas because I had just red Lewis with an 's' on the end iykwim... I do love both names though, Lewis and I love Luca.

I like both names, and although they do sound a bit similar, I think they go together okay. Yes, they could both be shortened to "Lew", but what are the chances of that? And would it matter so much if they did? My little brothers have completely different names, but both have/had the nickname "Monkey". That sometimes got confusing, so sometimes it doesn't matter what the original name is.

I have a friend who has a Liam and and Liana, and as far as I know, very few people notice the similarities in the two names.
