Middle name for Penelope and family politics

So we have pretty much settled on Penelope as a first name. Nicknames may include Penny, Pen, Nel, Nellie or Poppy. But we are still undecided on a middle name.

DH's mum's middle name is May. I like this name. No one else in the family has used one of MILs names.

DH's childless aunt's name is Diana (whom we really admire and she is lovely and very involved as ours are her surrogate grandchildren).

I wonder if MILs nose will get out of joint if we use Diana and not her name. Can we use both or it is too long? I am normally opposed to 2 middle names (for us). This may well be our last child.

Our last name has 3 sylables (sp?) and ends in y.

    I don't think it's to long.
A lovely tribute to them both!

I think having the May after Diana softens the long name in a way and makes it flow beautifully. Remember it wont be very often you will be saying her full name anyway.

What is your mil first name? Can you combine the two names somehow? My mum is Joanne and MIL is Anna so we combined the two and gave our dd Joanna..

Is the aunt (Diana) the sister of your MIL? Then you'd think she would be pleased regardless. Unless there is an expectation that you'd use a family name?

Diana May flows nicely, but if you aren't keen on two, then personally i like Penelope May best. What's Dianas middle name?

I like Penelope May the best. We considered Poppy as a name, and I just love it as a nickname, and Poppy May works too.

I voted Penelope May but then read the rest of your post and was wondering i it might sound a bit singsongy with your last name? The two middle names together work well but have you thought about putting May first to break it up with your last name? My cousns baby is Penny , its a very pretty name

I voted for Penelope May, but I would also choose Diana May if it were an option. Not really keen on Penelope Diana, it just feels like a mouthful to me. What about Poppy-Mae Diana?

    I like it with both

    Penelope Diana May sounds lovely

We're giving this little one 2 middle names for the same reason
