I think it is lovely idea! FWIW my DH's family has named people after someone by just using the first letter of the name.

My DD1's middle name is 'Kaye'. My mum is Kim and DH's mums name is Keryn,
we couldn't combine these either so we just stuck with the K, 'Kaye'.

I think 'Bea' is lovely .

    I like it
Nina's middle name is Mae, and we got that from MIL's middle name which is Valmae. So kinda the same thing, in a way.

... i agree with JwithJ, " Bea " does look better

Also i can't see how Bei has anything to do with the name Barbara there other than the ' B' !!

How about the first 3 letters of Betty (Bet) and the last 3 letters of Barbara (ara) ... put them together and you get BETARA ... it think that sounds pretty

I prefer Bea to Bei (Betara is also ok) - and don't think is silly idea at all - is a middle name and is nice for it to have a meaning.

My DD middle name is Jay because we wanted CJ as initial and couldn't come up with a J that we liked, so DH said why not Jay like Homer Simpson - and I thought why not.
