    middle names

Is it just me who finds it odd when people name there children with the same middle names?
For example I have a friend who has 2 daughters and they both have Jillian as there middle name (her mum is called Jillian) so there is a family connection but i still find it weird.
I know each to there own etc and sorry if anyone heres done it and takes offence i just think each child is different you wouldn't have the same first names so why middle?

I do find it a tad strange, I'd rather choose a name that honours someone else the second time, or suits that particular first name, or whatever. But it's still not as bad as all the same first name! I used to have these customers, the dad was called Frank (Middle Name), then the two sons were both called Frank, with a different middle name! So the dad went by Frank, and the two sons used their middle names. Why not just make Frank the middle names in the first place??

My DH has banned the name James for this reason - his middle name is James, and the only one of his brothers whose middle name isn't James has it as their first name instead. And his father's name - you guessed it - James.

We both find it a little conceited and odd really. But then, we talk about the names we prefer for our bub in terms of what the name means and how it sounds rather than carrying on any particular family traditions.

I do find it odd when all have the same middle name. Not something I would do. My brother has the same middle name as our Dad, who has passed away, and he gave his first born son the same middle name (which I would have done if I had have had a boy) but that was more out of respect, and that will be it. But to all have the same isn't something I would consider.

I know someone with three boys - and two of them have the same middle name, the third has something completely different!
I find that odd - but then again, I like uniformity and if I did it for two, would have to do it for all lol

I'm with you there - why has the third got a different one? My friend has a tradition in her DH's family that no boys have middle names, so her two DS's don't. But if they have a girl she'll have a middle name. Just seems strange to me that she would but her brothers don't

My mum, myself and both my DDs middle name is Lee. My brother and his DSs middle names are Paul.

I always said if I had a daughter she would have my middle name, then when we had DD2 it just seemed right that she did aswell. I don't take offence that you think its strange...each to their own and all it was just special for us

We have a family middle name that runs through my mum's family. It's my grandmother's maiden name (she is danish), and all her children had it as a middle name. Then my mum and her brother's and sister's all gave their kids the same middle name (sometimes paired with another middle name). My DS has it has one of his middle names, as will bub that is to be born any day. It's just a nice family tradition - and also a way to pay tribute to the danish blood running through our veins .

kinda off topic but still on middle names. i have a friend who has three boys. the middle names include her husbands first name, and her husbands 2 brothers first names. so its fair. now her sister said, "so if you have a girl, her middle name would be my name, right?" (she is her only sister) and my friend said no!!! i was like what the!!?? turns out she wants something completely made up with no family tie... i feel so sorry for her sister lol

back to topic, yep i think its strange for them all to have the same middle name. my son has his dads middle name, and if i have a daughter, she will have my middle name. thats not strange is it??

My Grandmother's middle name is Anne, My Mum's middle name is Anne and Mine is Anne.....if I have a girl her middle name will be Anne. For a boy John runs in both sides of the family, so we are considering it as a middle name
