My partner and I are thinking of baby names. He's Lebanese and we're trying to maintain some Lebanese heritage for our children through giving them Arabic names. It's a bit tricky, as my anglo parents can't even say my partner's name, so we're trying to think of names that are easy to say in English as well!
For a boy, we've already decided on:
Karim Yehia (following family tradition here, as my partner's father's name is Karim and partner's name is Yehia). This means "Generous and long lived".
For a girl it's a bit tricky. We've both decided that we love Salma as a first name, but we're having trouble with a middle name! Salma means peaceful. Here are our thoughts:
Salma Amal (peaceful hope) - I'm worried there are too many a's and m's here, and our surname starts with M!
Salma Janan (peaceful heart) - the emphasis when you say Janan is on the second syllable.
Salma Layal (peaceful night)
Salma Nawal (peaceful gift) (emphasis when you say it again is on the second syllable)
Salma Noor (beautiful light)
That's all we've got at the moment. Please be brutal - and ask if you're not sure how to say it.
I like Salam Janan or Layal they sound really nice but theyall sound beautiful, its lovely you know what they mean
My DD is Freya Jaine, I chose Jaine by mixing our myself and DP mums names together JAnette & catherINE = Jaine
I was going to have Anne, being my mums, my DP mum and his sisters middle name, but it didnt sound right, too many A's!!
Oooh, thanks ladies! I really appreciate the help - I think we're leaning towards Salma Layal or Salma Nawal, but I've still got a soft spot for the others...
Jennie13 - Jaine is such a lovely name, and I like having a reason behind a unique spelling. So sweet.
