My partner and I are thinking of baby names. He's Lebanese and we're trying to maintain some Lebanese heritage for our children through giving them Arabic names. It's a bit tricky, as my anglo parents can't even say my partner's name, so we're trying to think of names that are easy to say in English as well!
For a boy, we've already decided on:
Karim Yehia (following family tradition here, as my partner's father's name is Karim and partner's name is Yehia). This means "Generous and long lived".
For a girl it's a bit tricky. We've both decided that we love Salma as a first name, but we're having trouble with a middle name! Salma means peaceful. Here are our thoughts:
Salma Amal (peaceful hope) - I'm worried there are too many a's and m's here, and our surname starts with M!
Salma Janan (peaceful heart) - the emphasis when you say Janan is on the second syllable.
Salma Layal (peaceful night)
Salma Nawal (peaceful gift) (emphasis when you say it again is on the second syllable)
Salma Noor (beautiful light)
That's all we've got at the moment. Please be brutal - and ask if you're not sure how to say it.
