You know your family better than anyone in here. If you feel that it may cause some angst then I would choose something else. If you don't think it will be a problem then go ahead with the name.

How is your relationship with your cousin? Is she the type of person who would say you copied her?

We have chosen a name for our little girl and I have some reservations about how my mother (of all people) will react to the name because she has mentioned once before her dislike for it (it was on our list when we had Nikita) but to hell with her opinion
We are using it because DH loves it so very much and he hasn't really had the chance to do a lot with me during this pregnancy so its his contribution iykwim.

I like the suggestion of altering the spelling a little as well so it will be the same name but different.

I personally wouldn't use the same name, but that's me. I want my child to be unique.

As Nae said, you know your family best. If there is going to be b*tching about it, then i would recommend you re-think about it.

Alter the spelling is a good idea and may be add a middle name??

    I too second TD's comment

... Otherwise GO FOR IT if you feel it's not going to cause YOU or your other family members of any concern

I say GO FOR IT! Especially if you only see them for weddings & funerals. There is always going to be someone you know with the same name. It's how the trends go. It's none of their business anyway what you pick to name your child.

If you're worried they'll say you copied just be honest and say it's a name you've loved since you were a kid but unfortunately you weren't lucky enough to get to it first and if you can live with it so can they.

I also like the idea of spelling it differently, or if you're REALLY worried about it, pick a different first name and have it as the middle name.

    Good Luck!

Funny story though, when I got my furbaby, I had my heart set on calling her Jasmine. And my DSS's girlfriend TOLD me that there was no possible way I was allowed do that as she had a friend named Jasmine! I had never even met this friend of hers! I just gave her the "too bad, she's your friend not mine" speech and that was that. I did happen to meet this other Jasmine a couple of years later at a baby shower and she was giving someone else heaps about having a same name as a dog and I quickly piped up "Well guess what? My dog's name is Jasmine!" and the look on her face was priceless

If it is a name you have always wanted, nothing else will probably replace it in your heart, so I would say go for it. My SIL has two neices with the same name, born 1mth apart - one to her sister and one to her brother so they have different surnames and it's never been an issue for them and they live in each others pockets all the time.

I would say use it.. I wanted to use Morgan as my eldest daughters name and my cousin had just used it as her daughters name and I was going to use it only dh like Paige better so she has that as her middle name
