We have picked names, but we'd like a choice.
But the one we are having trouble with is: Sloane
We need a catholic based middle name!
Can't be Anne or Maria/Maree or Catherine - sorry Joeve, I should have put that one there too!
My baptismal name is Lucia, if that's any help!
Help!

Have you tried googling "catholic names"? I just did & the first thing that came up was Catholic City - Catholic Baby Names. A rather extensive list ordered alphabetically and by date It would appear that just about any name you can think of is catholic lol! According to this site, the female spelling is Frances, sepata
I did google but nothing seems to stand out or fit, but I did check on the Australian catholic website and does t actual say HAS to be a catholic name, just kind of says it means you don't fully understand the meaning of baptism!
DH is only concerned his parents may not understand why we haven't picked a biblical name! But at the same time they don't want us repeating a name!! Beats me!
So keep em coming!!

No worries. All of those are saints. There are quite few rather 'out-there' Catholic names too when you have a bit of a look. They aren't all just different versions of Maria! LOL
You need a catholic name for baptism???? First I've heard of this. What is a "catholic" name? A biblical one??
Or are you talking about Confirmation when you take a Saint's name?
still a very confused catholic......
.....so I looked at the site.
Giving a child a name that is obviously anti-Christian could suggest a lack of understanding of the meaning of Baptism, and would not make sense. [emphasis added]
I'm guessing here that they would probably question why you are calling your child "Lucifer" as opposed to "George".
Are you doing this because its a requirement for baptism, or because its something the grandparents expect?
I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm sure if the name you have chosen is meaningful, that should be explanation enough. But if you're after Christian sounding names, many traditional names arise from Christian naming traditions.
Eg,
Constance
Perpetua
Edith
Clare
Agnes, Agnatha
Elizabeth, Beth, Elise, Elsie, elspeth
Magdalena
Trinity
Hope
Lily, Rose (because of association with Mary)
Brigid, Brigitte
Danielle
Mary, Marian, Mariel
My siblings mostly have Catholic saint names (including Maria!) but there's also Bernadette, Genevieve and Elizabeth in my clan. A cousin is Theresa. I like Ave (as in Ave Maria).
