Azaria's a beautiful name. I'm sure enough time has passed for that.

If it was Ivan, though, then I just think backpacker murders. Or Jaidyn, wouldn't use that. It depends on the association and is it something people immediately think of as negative. In the US, they rarely call their kids Damien, cos of some movie about the devil.

I might depending on the name... Adolf, no way in the world! If it has a negetive stigma then it wouldn't be an option in my book.
My friend named her little boy Maddex, loved Maddox, but wanted it slightly different, and I love the name. DH loves the name Ace, my mum tell me a band memeber of Kiss is Ace Frehley and that doesn't bother me at all (I just dont like the name! ), but names like Adolf, Osama, etc are far too negetive for me.... Thats all I think of when I hear such names.

I know an Attila. It took me such a long time to get used to it on him but it's just his name, just like any other, now.

I wouldn't use Adolf and like tashybabe I wouldn't use Ivan either, I would just always think of murder.

If it is Azaria I think that's totally acceptable - no one in her generation would relate it to the Chamberlains (if that's even what everyone's talking about!). And it's a beautiful name!

FWIW, my DS is Leon and I always get asked if he was named after the band Kings of Leon And NO I did not lol. So no, famous bands/pop stars do not deter me!

Yep Lulu & Rouge, it's Azaria

Aaron just thinks that there is too much stigma around the name because there has only ever been one Azaria. I really like it & think it's quite a pretty name. The way I see it is that she was born & died 29 years ago and by the time she's at school the kids aren't going to know about her. The parents I'd say would remember, but surely parents knowing of the original Azaria's story aren't going to tell their kids & give them ammunition to tease IYKWIM.

See Tash, I would still use Jaidyn as there have been lots of others, same as Ebony. I think the difference with Azaria is more that it's an unusual name & Azaria Chamberlain is the only one that would come to mind.

Rachel, my old boss was Atilla as well, he was known mostly as Til though.

there has only been one FAMOUS Azaria - i know of one locally down here (she's about 4) - and no one has mentioned the Chamberlains to her folks at all. to be honest, i didn't even really think of it until she was nearly a year old!

if you want to use it, use it!

Azaria is a lovely girls name. It also reminds me of Hank Azaria ( does a voice in the Simpsons).
I don't think the name has a stigma attached to it at all.

well to an extent my son's name has a stigma. Lots of people have asked me if we named him after president Nixon (as if!) and i actually read somewhere in a online baby name finder that Nixon was quiet UNPOPULAR in America because of the president (and that was his surname not christian name)
I think Azaria was long enough ago to not hold that stigma.... yes there may be some ppl that bring it up (isnt there always) but i dont think it would cause enough to make you think twice about calling your daughter this name.

In regards to Jayden Leski i know a lotof ppl who have said they wouldnt call their son this after his death but i know lots of Jaydens and dont immedicatly think of him every time i hear the name.

i think if the name draws negative emotion for you or your family then dont use it, but i think if you love a name use it! Everyone is different

    Sarah,
I did a FB quiz for baby name and the name came up with Azaria, and for someone that grew up in that generation I didn't think once about the association to the event.
    I say go for it.
