Names you loved but were vetoed by your SO

When I was pg with DD2, I had a long list of names that I *loved* that DH said absolutely NOT about.

The most memorable was ENID - which, to this day, I swear would've been a lovely name. It means life/spirit, and it suits DD's personality too. In the end I selected another E name instead.

What are the names you LOVED but were vetoed by your SO?

Top of the 'I love / he hates' list is Margot.

He will not have a bar of it.

So I named my Kenwood mixer Margot instead

I got heaps! I loved Iris, Ruby, Daisy, Mary, Emily, Annie, Anna for girls but DH hated them.

For boys I loved Stanley, Wesley, Henry, Harry but again DH hated them all too.

He suggested Gary or Rex which I hated

    And Margot Kenwood is gorgeous.

Margot got the big no here too. But I have a bicycle called Ramona for the same reason

The Scrabble Board Rule disallowed: Daisy, Rose, Pearl, Ruby, Iris, Basil, Fletcher, Eve and Hazel

I really liked Rusty for a boy. Technically the SBR applies, but not if the birth certificate says Russell

There are hundreds. It took us ages to arrive at our choice.

I love Elizabeth. Apparently its 'too royal.' He wouldn't even let me have it as a middle name!

The funny thing? My DH and my Dad have the same birthday. My Mum wanted to call me Elizabeth...

Dad also said it sounded too royal! It must be a born on May 24th thing

    Others on the list were:
    For Girls:
    Victoria - also too royal.
    Evelyn - too girly.
Anastasia - too royal again (and apparently also too Russian )
Olivia - Name of the town bicycle of his school.
    Anne - Too old lady.
    Octavia - Too Roman.

    For Boys:
Lucas - Doesn't like the sound, and its too close to Luke which he also doesn't like.
    Noah - Too biblical.
Kane - Reminds him of the wrestler.
Philip - Too many P's in the full name then. Ended up having to agree with that one.
Bartholomew - too hard for him to spell. It wasn't completely out of the question though, because he knows how to spell Bart...
Theodore - This just got a '...seriously? You're kidding right?'

DH hated most of my favourite girls' names - DD2 was supposed to be Alicia Reade *last name* but he hated it. He also threw out Elizabeth, Katherine, Danielle and all the pretty, girly names I'd picked... and as for boys? Well it's lucky we didn't get one, because we could NOT agree on a single name.

Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to name my daughter Chloe...

Turns out DH had a ferret called Chloe as a child, so it was an absolute no go Who names a ferret Chloe anyway?

I liked Amity for a girl, DH said No as all he could think of was Amityville Horror.. Then came around to it as I was going off it, then fell in love with it while I fell in love with a different name.. Which we both now love and have decided is 'THE ONE' - Silly man, if only he'd listen to me in the first place hehe

I LOVED Gilbert. DP HATED Gilbert......it was never even going to get a look-in for a middle name either so I just had to let it go.

For weeks in my head, I called the twins Indigo and Avalon. I was going to have two little girls named Indy and Ava.. Then I told DH. He said I must be on drugs because they are awful names.. He also hated Audrey and Sybella.

For boys - we were at absolute war over the fact that I LOVE the name Noah (he hates it), and he was insistant on Harry. We already have a Tom - so no way was I having everyone say 'Where's D*ck" when I said Tom and Harry. Lucky they turned out to be girls because I think we would still be fighting over boys names.
He wanted to call DS Lester or Marshall... I said no way.

Miss E - a ferret named Chloe is the funniest thing ever! How cute! Although boo to ruining your name choice.

Harper - I have wanted a little girl named Harper forever. My Ex also didn't like it
Atticus - Yes, I love the book To Kill A Mockingbird. DH thought that Atticus sounded too much like Abacus.
Jagger - DH liked it but didn't love it.
Jacoby - I loved this so much. Once again, DH was not a fan.
Estelle - I loved this, DH was not a fan and said it reminded him of George Costanza's Mum from Seinfeld. I ended up convincing him it is beautiful and he agreed to it, then I didn't like it anymore! lol

DP loves Emma. It's been vetoed by me.

And he won't hear of Miranda, which I think would be perfect for this DD. I'm deliberately not deciding in the hope that he might be so impressed with my natural home birth he changes his mind. Otherwise, we do have a back up compromise.
