Need help with Boy's name combination - We're running ourselves around in circles!!
Hi Ladies! I am in a bit of a naming pickle and would LOVE your advice!
My 20 week/Morphology Scan is Tuesday week and I this may sound odd but I have just had a strong feeling ever since finding out I was pregnant that we are having a little boy! We have had our girls name picked out for a long time, but are struggling for a boys name combination! I'd really like to have our little one named by the time we leave our scan, or at least have a top 2 picked out, providing of course, bub co-operates and let's us find out 100% Boy or Girl!
Our "Rules"
1. We want a name that has been heard before but is still unique enough that we won't meet 10 other kids with the same name in his school if you know what I mean!
2. I'd prefer two middle names...
3. The sound/look of Initials and nicknames/name shortening does matter to us...
4. Bailey must be a middle name and preferably the in the middle of first name and second middle name - Eg. _____ Bailey ______ Surname as it sounds a little odd next to our surname due to the quick Eeee Eeee sounds if that makes any sense at all??
Our Surname is Holyoake - Pronounced Holly-oak
So, this is our favourites list so far...
First names:
Cruz - This is absolutely our clear #1 favourite, we LOVE this as a first name and it flows SO well with our surname! The ONLY issue we have with this as a first name is trying to match the middle names... Other than that, we are sold on our little man being "Cruz" - Just need to figure out the middle names!
Sebastian - Issue: It is the name of my Grandparents current cat, which kind of bothers me, but only a little - Our son will out live the cat afterall! Also is becomnig a bit too popular
Jasper - Love it! It means "Guardian of the Treasure" which we think would be just so sweet if he has a little sister one day!
Hunter & Ashton - These were our favourites except we know of a few Ashton's & Hunter's already and the names are becoming a bit too popular around us... Also, Hunter would make his first and last initials HH and Ashton with our chosen middle names would make his initials ABCH... Is that odd? Am I being FAR too picky? Perhaps
Ok now for the middle names - Our preferred middle name selection is:
Bailey Charles
Bailey is my grandparents surname and a name we adore, but has been used as a first name by close friends of ours for their son - this is the middle name we are 100% positive we want to use no matter what... Due to family reasons, We really feel this name MUST be used as a middle name regardless of the first name...
Charles is DH's middle name - Also gives the name a bit of that old world "manly" charm if that makes sense? You know those names - Edward, William, Thomas, the traditional names we all love so much - Well, Charles is ours
Other possible middle names are:
James - A name that has been passed through my father's family, but that we don't particularly LOVE, however as my father passed away when I was 11, we would love to honour him someway in his first Grandson's name - My father's name was Larry John and neither of those really sit too well with our name selection - I'm not fond of John and although I am fond of Larry, we must have Bailey as a middle name and Bailey Larry doesn't sound right...
Or any of our favourite first names listed above - As long as they suit Bailey and our surname...
Ok so here are our current combination's... But we just aren't 100% SOLD on any of them yet - Close, but not 100% I always thought that picking a name would be the fun part and that when I heard the name I'd just "KNOW" and a lightening bolt would strike me and I'd say - "That's it! I love it!" But it hasn't quite happened like that, I always find a little fault with each name - I am too damn picky and particular, I know this Am getting a bit frustrated, as is DH...
Cruz Bailey James Holyoake
Ashton Bailey Charles Holyoake
Jasper Bailey Cruz/Charles Holyoake
Sebastian Bailey Cruz/Charles Holyoake
Hunter Bailey Cruz/Charles Holyoake
Wow - I just realised the length of this post - My apologies and HUGE KUDOS to you if you got through all of that and THEN also have the energy to even respond! I hope it makes sense!!
But, it REALLY does feel good to get all of that out, even if it's just for me to come back to haha!
I'd be going with Cruz Bailey Holyoake. I know I've dumped one of the middle names but I personally don't see the point in two middle names. Bailey flows perfectly well with your surname without adding an extra name in. I also feel that adding an old fashioned name like James in just doesn't flow well with the two modern names (IMHO).
P.S. I was soooooooooo sure I was having a girl.... and nearly fell off my chair when the amnio results showed it was a boy. Luckily for us we had only agreed on a boy's name by that stage so never had to discuss girls ones after 16 weeks.
Just a thought: in my experience, you don't say all the names together too much, so I wouldn't get TOO hung up on that. By the time he's 6 months old, you'll be so used to it that it won't matter anymore iykwim.
Alicia this might sound strange to say (as i too was very picky & by the way i too love two middle names ) BUT have you looked at the Initials of all the combinations & maybe some might look more appealing then others to you & your DH, IYKWIM
