My DS1's name is actually fairly common, so it was the name of a boy my old best friend & I used to check out on the train when we were travelling to & from school... he was from a different school... he and I once had a drunken kiss (at a party)
My son's name is also the same of the same old best friend's brother.

I liked it and used it for a totally different reason altogether.

My FIL named his daughter Annette after an ex girlfriend. So yep, it's true here!
My DF goes through the names of the "hot" girls we went to school with, with the theory that if we name out daughter that they'll grow up to be pretty... i don't know if that counts or not though XD

DH has Rebecca at top of his list....and I joked that it musta been the name of his kindergarten crush. Turns out I was right. But I really don't like the name, so vetoed it and will continue to do so (no offence to anyone who likes it...just that I went to school with a few of them and didn't rate of any of them )

But if it had been a name I liked I wouldn't have let his kindy crush get in the way. Might be different if it was the girlfriend before me or something like that, but a kindy crush...that is kinda cute!

oh my goodness this is not something I EVER tell anyone, especially my DH, but I do LOVE my ex's name!!! Well his name is Nathan, but we all called him Nate and I just love it. Had we had children together (not that that was EVER going to happen... young and dumb! ), a little boy I would have definately called him Nate!
I am still completely in love with the name Nate, as is my hubby (I told him once that Nathan went by Nate, but he forgot!). It really didn't feel right having that name for that reason, especially if I ever ran into him somewhere (doubtful, but you just never know!), thankfully my brother's new partner has a 5 y/o boy named Nate so it is now off our list for the next bub... Which does actually leave our list bare of names we agree on, but by the time we get pg and have the bub we have just agreee on something! LOL

Had to laugh when i read this topic....

DH and i agreed that when discussing possible bub names, if we brought up a name of someone we had been with/had a history with we had to mention out of respect to our partner. How horrible if you found out from his mate down the track "oh how funny, he was sooo in love with a blah blah for years and years...."

This created a prob though cos every second girls name i said he goes "well, hmmm, actually, there was this girl...." followed by "perhaps not that name" then "well i should prob mention that..." After a while i called time out and changed the rules (i met hub when he was 38 and a lifetime bachelor who had been quite busy...) as it was beginning to upset me hearing names put to his extensive history and besides it was starting to sound like if we ruled out the name of every chick he "spent time with" we would struggle to have any left over!! The man had been on his own for twenty years so quite frankly even if he only "kept company" twice a year it still rules out a lotta names!!! I decided that he should only rule out a name of a girl if he was in love with her and suddenly the problem appears to have disappeared.....

Funnily, he brought up the name Benjamin, which we both said we loved and i could FINally GO "WELL, ACTUALLY...." and he says " well, how old were you when you knew this guy??" So i answered EIGHT!!! He figured he could live with that so if we have a boy it will v. likely be BEn!!!!! So after all that YES for me, i think i prolly am drawn to a crush from way backs name just cos he was a gorgeous kid!!!!

Henri, I looove the name Benjamin. I don't think I have ever actually known a Benjamin, though. But, unfortunately, our last name is Bennett, and Ben Bennett is jus a bit weird.
