i was talking to my mum about girl names and i said i liked Scarlet and she said "oh no the poor girl will get called Scarlet the harlet" and i was like NOBODY uses that word anymore! And if she did get called that then an adult told the child to say that!

I have moved these posts from the thread they were in because it's not really fair to the OP to start discussing rhyming names.

When MIL found out that DD2 was named Harper, the first thing out of her mouth was "oh dear, well make sure no one calls her Harpie" Which of course DD1 pipes up and says "Harpie is my sister, I love Harpie"

MIL was horrified, but at the time DD1 couldnt say her name in whole, but could call her harpie. In the end we said we didnt care if she was called that or not, it was amazing to hear DD1 talk about ,talk to and just adore her sister, and thats what mattered the most. (another reason why we never tell people our name choices before bubs is born)

By the way, almost 2yrs later, one of DD2's nicknames is Harpie.

(and to make matter sorse still, one of DD2's middle names is scarlett too )

We both really love Scarlett but DP's issue with the name is he thinks Scarlett Johanson is uber hot and he doesn't want to think of his daughter like that

I'm not really worried about her getting teased, i think with any name there is potential for name calling.

My gorgeous girl is Scarlett and I have never heard anyone say anything negative about her name. Most people just assume I got the name from Gone With The Wind, which I did, and that leads to an interesting discussion about the book and the origins of my own name, also from the same book

You are so not like your name sake Trav.

I never know what to be more offended by in Gone With The Wind. The racism or the fact that Scarlett cheers up no end after being carried up the stairs and raped by her husband.

I always hated being named after the mild mannered and meek but noble woman in that story I just wanted to be the feisty Scarlett
