Sibling for Felix - Archie or Jasper? Or ??

    Hi there,

We're pretty sure that we are going to choose Archer (nn Archie), but I still can't help but think that a) Jasper might be a better match for Felix and b) there may be the 'perfect' boys name out there that we haven't yet stumbled on.

Please help! Which do you like best and why? Archie or Jasper? Or can you suggest an alternative?

We like old fashioned names, with a slightly quirky/trendy twist. Any suggestions would be good! Thank you!

Hiya - I like Archie the best. I think when you say them both together as in Felix and Archie it just sounds good. Good luck with making your decision.

Jasper and Felix were my picks for my first son. In the end I decided on Jasper for the first boy and Felix for the second but then my H won and we didn't use either name I like them together. I used to like Archie too but then I taught a couple I didn't like It's a cool name too though. Archie and Jasper are both top 100 names now- I'm pretty sure Archie is the most popular of your choices.

Other names I like with Felix:
    Griffin
    Otis
    Miles
    River
    Jensen
    Digby

I think both names go well with Felix......Felix & Jasper, Felix & Archer.....They are both nice combinations. Have you chosen a middle name?
I can't help with your thought that the 'perfect' name may still be out there. I thought that with both my boys, and I never came up with an answer! The perfect names are probably still out there, and I never found them!

    Good luck!

There are 2 brothers up the road from me, Felix & Reuben. I like it.

eta - Felix is about 18 I think, Reuben just turned 16 & we were talking about boys names & he was saying how he has the best name in the world.

FWIW, when people asked us what names we liked for our baby, Archie was the ONLY name that we never heard a bad reaction. Plenty of people didn't like Oliver, Hamish, Angus, Thomas, etc. But as soon as we said "Archie" the reaction was positive, 100% of the time. Since he was born, some people have asked "Archibald?" but not many.

I like Jasper and Felix, but I love Archie.

Thats tough, they are both great names. I've always liked Jasper though so I'm going with that.

I like the suggestion of Reuben, sounds great with Felix.

Will he have a middle name?

Thanks everyone, this is really helping. Funnily enough, we've never had a bad reaction to the name Archie when we tell people (touch wood so far anyway!) whereas every other name gets a mixed reaction. To be fair though, Felix also gets a mixed reaction in some circles so I shouldn't let it cloud our judgement too much!

It's funny you ask about the middle name as we think we're going to go with both our fathers (John - mine) Ray (DH's). The only thing is that my dad passed away fairly recently (2 years) and I would really like to honour him by just using his name as the middle name alone, especially given our child will carry the paternal surname anyway. But when I mentioned this, DH was very clear that he would never forgive himself if he didn't have his father's name in the middle name alongside my dad's.

To be honest, if his mother had passed away, god forbid, I wouldn't dream of putting my mother's name alongside hers, I would just let his late mother have that honour if we had a girl. But the only other tricky thing is that DH's family live in the UK so they don't get to see much of the grandkids, so I suppose I can see why it is important to him, to incorporate their name into the kid's name in light of this ongoing absence..

Anyway, when I mentioned why I wanted to have just my dad's name, as a nice way to honour my late dad (who our son will never meet!!), DH is of the opinion that his dad will frankly pass away one day too, so that's not enough of a long-term reason to only opt for one middle name (ie my dad's). Frustratingly with Felix, we never thought to use one of our dad's names as it just wasn't important to us back then, but since my dad has died it does feel important to carry on his name.

DH is usually very supportive and understanding on everything, so this reaction has surprised me and I'm just not sure whether it's worth broaching it with him again - am I being unfair to only want my dad's name as the middle name in light of these circumstances? (I also think 'John Ray' sounds like a dodgy texan cowboy!!! But I'm trying not to be shallow...!)

I like the name Felix, I thought of it for DD if she were to be a DS so both our SOns would have an 'x' in their names....

With your middle name dilemma, John Ray does sound a bit country Singerish Your maiden name, or your Dad's surname doesn't happen to be able to be used as a first name does it? That is how I carried on the name from my fathers side.
