    Surnames as first names?

    Hiya Mums-to-be,

What are your current thoughts on surnames as first names?

I really like Harper William or Davis Robert for a boy, but our surname is quite traditional (on the plus side it's easy to spell) but I am worried that out bub might just end up being a list of surnames.

    Any suggestions or opinions?

My surname is also a male first name, so when Harrison was born, the hospital and paed got his first & last names muddled a few times until I corrected them. I haven't had any issues since and Harrison is 2+5 months now.
I absoultely love the names you have chosen!!! Harper William is definitely my favourite.

I really like it - I know a McKenzie who has her mothers maiden name and so many little boys with traditionally surnames as first names and they are all such strong, manly names kwim? Mostly around here it tends to be Mum's maiden name that they use which I think is a lovely thing to do and would have liked to do it too had my maiden name not been such a doozy LOL

My cousins kids all have surnames as first names - Hunter, Mackenzie, Cassidy and Lawson!!! and my other cousin used her maiden name for her son's first name and her DH's mother's maiden name for the middle name- end result Connor Giles!!!

    Good luck

Someone I know also used their maiden name for their first son's name. I don't see a problem with it.

I have thought about using my maiden name (well adding a letter to make it a more of a 1st name) for this baby. It isn't on our shortlist, but we are still considering it..

To answer your question, some last names make great 1st names!

There is litle Brady Hobbs who is Miranda's baby on SATC and I think that works. Depends on what your last name is I suppose.

I like surnames as first names. Most of them are strong sounding names.... now if only I could convince my husband of that.

    Thumbs up

I changed my second middle name to be my surname as soon as i was of legal age

... I have surprisingly hardly had it mixed up as a first name (eg, being called out in a GP or Dentist's waiting room)

Infact i have many comments on how lovely my first & surname are together ... without these people actually knowing it was not my birth surname
