Did you always plan to shorten bubs name?

Did you name your baby with the intention to shorten the name or use a nickname?
Ie a friend of ours has a felicity but she was always going to be 'flick'. When they did their BA they wrote Felicity (Flick) ...

They don't like her being called felicity.

It makes sense so the child still has a 'proper' name to use. I mean hey, you can't imagine a Flick being elected prime minister can you? Lol

I'm not a fan of long names but don't mind some of them once shortened/nicknamed down.

We didn't, because we couldn't think of a shortened nickname for Xanthe. She nicknamed herself Zee and that seems to have stuck.

Our DS1 is Angus and when we named him we were sure we’d call him Gus. We called him Gus in our BA email but we’ve never called him Gus since, he’s always Angus. We call our DD Harriet, Harri all the time though (and Big Bad Barry sometimes too).

    I don't think we did intentionally (We have a Jackson and call him Jack, orginal huh? ) But we have a girls name picked purely because I like the nickname that goes with Jack, iykwim ><;

No, when we told everyone what DD1 (Ameli@) name was going to be, I constantly got, you can call her this or that and so on. I said nope I wont be shortening it to anything and so far although a few have tried she still gets called her full name. If anything she has 2 nicknames that have nothing to do with her name that get used.

DD2 (M@cey) has a name that can't really be shortened although FIL seems to add a letter to her name that irks me to no end

With all of my sons they have a formal name that we have never used since birth. We always intended to use a shortened version, therefore giving them the choice of two (or more) names as they get older. Only my daughter is known by her full name.

The other thing I hate is when people say melia and completely drop the A. It is just one of those names I think.

Olive I like the fact that you knew you would call her that so that was what you did. If we can have a Kevin for PM then why not a Flick or a Mill1e.

I always like Maggie, but went for Margaret so she would have some choice as she gets older. We were also thinking of the Prime Minister thing as Maggie is quite informal.

With Evie, I did also like Evelyn, so it was a no brainer. She is mainly Evie, but getting Evelyn a lot more since there are 2 others at childcare and 1 with the same initial. I had to pick a name that was nowhere, to suddenly the top 10 in the district the year she was born.

We named our children names that are hard to shorten until the last one. She has a 9 letter name and EVERYONE is desperate to shorten but we don' t want it shortened we chose it because we love the full name. She is 18mths old and still has not been shortened in name. I prefer nicknames for my kids that don't require shortening their beautiful name, we use these nicknames and very close friends and family started using them also!

We named our kids so they couldn't be shortened to something else.
Like Olive we chose to use the shortened version as the name. So we have a Nate...not Nathaniel.

With DS1 - Harrison it's always been his full name except by his friends at schools & DS2 - Jaxon we haven't and we changed the spelling so it couldn't be easily shortened to Jack. This one i'm baking though we intend to call Abbey from day one but we are using Abigail as the full version on formal things though.

Yes. DD1's name is Gabriella and right from the start we always had the intention of shortening it to Gaby...she gets called both names and we are more then happy with both. DS is the same, his name is Alexander and we always knew that we would mainly call him Alex. DD2's name was not intended to be shortened but it has ended up that way and we really like the shortened version, but it was a shortening that we had never thought of IYKWIM?
