    Red face Too Goofy?

The other day I said to DH, "I really like this name but it's one that probably a lot of people hate . . . Penelope and Penny for short." He responded that he also loves the name and so I thought, "That was easy!" A few days later I realised, our last name is Nicholls and so Penny Nicholls is like a joke name. Get it? Like Penny, Nickels, American coin names. So I told him it was out. But it just keeps returning too our minds.

What do you think? About the combo with the last name and also feelings about Penelope/Penny in general? We like well-known names, in original spellings, but not in the top 50. Thanks.

I like Penelope. The one I know is Pene for short (pronounced the same way though)
Another that may fit your criteria is Eleanor

I have a friend with a gorgeous baby called Penny.
In your case I really can't stop thinking about Penny Nickels sorry!
What about Charlotte, Julia, Elizabeth, Laura ???

To be honest, I don't think the penny nickles thing is an issue here in Australia - I didn't get it at all until you pointed it out.

I didn't get the coin thing either, I don't think it'd be a problem here in Oz!

    I love Penny!

I do like it. It does flow nicely.
I don't know, I don't think too many people here would be too worried.

Never even occurred to me until you mentioned it.
There's always some tool who will point out a NN you never even thought of - no matter what you call your child.
    I think it's a lovely name.

I love Penelope as a name and it is on our list if we ever have a girl. I didn't automatically pick up the money thing.

I don't think it's a huge drama given That when she is little her peers are unlikely to even know what a penny is so wont use it to tease.

I like Penny / Penelope! I don't think the Nicholls thing will be a drama - it's not spelt the same etc.
