    To be honest, I don't think the penny nickles thing is an issue here in Australia - I didn't get it at all until you pointed it out.

    I was ambivalent about Penelope until recently - I met a little 2 year old Penny who is the most divine creature ever, and now I am totally in love with the name!
    It took me a while to get Penny Nicholls. There's some far crueller stuff out there. Like Laya Thorogood.

    Thanks everyone. You were very helpful and I was quite surprised that so many of you liked the name. I forgot to mention I'm American so it would be more of an issue for me with our last name. I'd love to ask my mom about it but DH really likes to keep names quiet until after the birth. We do spend 90% of our time in Australia or Africa and she'll probably get married and change her last name. We'll see! Thanks again.
