If you really want to be unique choose a sensible, old fashioned name
There were only 3 Alans last year.

We're finding it really hard to come up with boys names too... DS is B os ley, which is an old English surname. Trying to find another unusual, but not unpronounceable name to go with that is really hard! Not going to tell you what's on our short list, but here are a few I liked but were vetoed my DH (or out for other reasons)...

    Spencer
    Lynton
    Winston
Hadley - I love, love, love this name
    Kendrick

    W i l l o w was my first choice for DDs name - DH didn't like it however
Our DS is Bailey - I thought those two names went lovely together

Tinks I have a Jarrah in mothers group! How funny you mentioned it, I have never heard of it. Other than the wood!

Mummy Naomi - I love Bailey for a girl too...
Great names JLeigh - are you going to find out what your having?
I've not heard of Jarrah as a name, nice name but a little far out for us.
Alan doesn't really sound good with w i l l o w. don't get me wrong I don't want a crazy name, just something out of the top 50, although there's nothing to say it won't make it's way up there, W * is certainly moving up the ranks, I think the reason why it's not so popular is a lot of DH's veto it, I know loads of girls who love it and wanted it but hubby's didn't like it for whatever reason. I don't think it's a strange or unusual name? so we kind of want the same for boys.
I showed DH my list last night, he wasn't happy with any of them. He just doesn't like boys names I think. I do like Didier though, it's a lovely french name, and although not common in Australia, it's not uncommon in France, kind of like what Arimeh was saying about her swedish DS name. Gosh, why do boys names have to be so hard? we had the same delima with DD, even though we never used it we only decided a week or two out.

There was a Jarrah in amongst the bubs born from my antenatal classes with DS. I've heard it somewhere else too but I can't remember where.

Our boys have names that are popular in their country of origin too. One is Norwegian and no-one has heard of it, the other is German and isn't so unknown but not a top 50 name.

Didier people who follow soccer would know (famous Chelsea player Didier Drogba) - I like it but he is not necessarily a player I would want to share a name with as his behavior is not always exemplary. Less of an issue in Australia, but in UK I think people would associate with footballer. DD has an uncommon name here but is very common in Wales - however only about 40% of people here know how to say it - if I had realised that might not have chosen it - but if know when picking a name people might not know how to say then is not so bad.

I like Kendrick and also Kenton. Blair, I also like and think goes well with W.

I had the opposite boys names I found easy girls less so.

I forgot about Didier Drogba TBH, funny as my hubby said last night, there is someone else famous with the name Didier other than Didier Cohen and I shrugged it off. Funny as Chelsea is his football team.
I don't think that is reason enough to sway me away as by the time this bub is old enough he will be long forgotton about... I was worried that not many people would know how to pronounce it and he would be constantly getting his name wrong.... I guess I need to think about weather that's much of a problem. I guess that's the same for Joaquin too - most people would pronounce it Jo-Quin instead of Wha-Keen.

Am I the only one that finds this so hard? It's such a big responsibility naming a human being don't you think??!!

Very comprehensive Rowellen - I like Cade on your list, but I have a cousin who named her DS Q u a d e - so probably a little similar.

That would be me lol. I think Jo-Quin sounds great. I'm not so keen on Wha-Keen. Funnily enough I almost suggested Q u a d e but decided it was a little too out there based on your previous comments lol. And I too found naming my children really hard. It would have been much easier if DH didn't have an opinion though I really wanted Archer for DD if she had been a boy but DH vetoed me of course.

Red gum - We found out recently we're having a boy, so I definitely need my boys names, lol!

I like Arlen, Kenton and Preston too, but DH has said no. Our (extremely) short list includes a name that's very like Kenton...

I met two Jarrah's in less than a month last year. Had never heard it before then.

I agree - girls' names are soooooooo much easier. Why is that? I really worried about giving our child a name they were (likely to be) stuck with until they're at least 18.... It's a huge responsibility, isn't it?

Have you googled? We're in the process of googling names, starting with 'unusual English names' to go with DS'. We're also looking at meanings.

There is a Jamiraquai at DS's school. But I can't help but break into Virtual insanity every time I hear it. His nickname is Jam too.

JLeigh, have googled. I have found nameberry website very helpful. I have to work tonight so hoping when DH puts DD to bed he will look at my name spreadsheet with an open mind.

Zeke is starting to really grow on me now... What does everyone else think. It's around way, way out of the top 100, I personally don't think it's a really out there name - what do you ladies think? I now JLeigh you love it. DH is very unconvinced though. The only name we agree on so far is Ryder and I am just not as convinced anymore.

Yes, it's funny Gee - I love Zeke but really dislike Ezekiel. I think it's a hebrew name - means strength of god. I like for a baby or toddler nicknaming to Zekie or Zekie Boo.
