I was in the same situation a few months ago. The wife of one of the guys I work with is due 4 weeks before me, and one day we got onto the subject of names. Turns out we had chosen the same boy's name. Made me feel quite weird at first, but then DH and I thought about it logically and decided it really didn't matter that much. It's still an odd feeling though - logically, it's no big deal, but emotionally - "they stole our name!!" LOL! As it turns out, we're having a boy and they're having a girl so it doesn't matter at alll

I think there comes a time when you have to draw the line on where to stop worrying about having the same name as others around you. I understand if its family or good friends, then that's a good reason to discuss a name change, however, if its as removed as a work environment with people you aren't social with outside of work, then I'd go with what you have picked. You and your baby need to live with the name you choose for the rest of your lives. Chances are, you won't be in touch with these people for a lifetime. That's just my opinion anyway.
    exactly what Nel.B. said!!

A girl I used to work and I were discussing baby names one day (she was pregnant with a girl) and I said something like " I'm not sure for a girl but my boy name should I have a son will be Zane" and as it turns out she already had a son called Zane...didn't stop me though, I loved it too much!!

I wouldn't change. You both know that you came up with the names separately and didn't 'steal' them as such.
I had DS's name picked out long before he was conceived. Then when i met my doula, she had a son who had the same first name. We are now really great friends and see each other frequently. The boys are both born in April (one the 20th and one the 22nd) just a year apart and neither of us mind. We just have a Big William and a Little William when we are together

We just had our little girl and hadn't settled on a name 100%, but thought we liked Madeleine. MW asked us what we thought for names and we said that name. Anyway, she left our birth to attend another birth that night to a girl I have been getting to know for the last few months. We got a txt the next morning and they announced their babies birth and the name as Madelyn. I let her know we thought we would use madeleine but hadn't decided 100%. She was fine with it. But u know I just had to say something so it wasn't a surprise when we announced and she would know we didn't copy. Random tho hey?! We had never discussed names at all.
