Small dilemma over here in Teni territory... I've gone off our chosen girls' name! So I'm revisiting the idea of honouring my uncle (who died last year) by naming this potential girl Billie. My dad's been calling the baby "Little Bill" from the beginning anyway, not realising it was in the running at the start before we chose this other name, so he'd be happy. Our boy middle name is William for the same reasons.
Trouble is, I see Billie as more of a nickname than a full first name but can't think of any names I like which can be shortened to it! Can you help me out? DH already suggested Bilijana, but that's one of those names with bad memories attached for me.
After all this, I'm sure we'll either settle on Billie or go back to our original name anyway, but I may as well ask
I like Billie as a first name. In the male version, Bill or Billie is often a nickname for William as you probably know so maybe Willa, Wilhelmina, Willow, Willia, Willis, Wilma.
Otherwise, Brigitte (lots of spelling options), Bella, Belle, Beatrice.
Or a hyphenated name like Billie-May, Billie-Ann etc.
Right in one I even tried looking up what she's shortened it from, but it turns out her birth name was Leian, and her parents changed it to Billie when she was a few months old.
Thanks for the suggestions so far, there's quite a few here I hadn't thought of
My nannas best friend was named Lillian, but forever called Billie. It was actually a surprise at her funeral for most of us to find out her 'real' name!
Unfortunately Belinda's a definite no. We both went to school with a multitude of Belindas, plus my cousin's daughter is a Belinda and there's no way known I'd want to copy any idea of hers. It's hard enough just being related to the two of them
My sister's name is Billie, that's her full first name, it was never shortened from another name. It comes from the name Wilhelmina (I guess the female version of William). TBH she hated her name growing up, but appreciates it now she's older. I personally love it .
