What do you think of this boys name?

    Mix.

Um, yeah, that's the name. What do you reckon? I like it, but then that's just me. I also like a lot of other weird random names.

If you were a kid, would you tease him?

lol If I were a kid? No. But I know almost everyone in my primary school would have teased him!

Not a fan sorry, just not sure what it's point it - what does it mean? Not it's definition, but what does it mean as in to you, why would you use it?

Then again, I don't understand the premise for using half the names that appeared in Winter's Nicole Ritchie name thread either!

If I was a kid I'd probably tease him... But it'd be cool teasing.. I'd call him Sir Mix-alot!!

I love the name Moe but am worried about the same thing!

LOL Limey, I just liked the sound of it! Mix. I still like it, but I know he'd get teased. I'll keep working on Nalin then. Shel will like it one day!

I don't always think about the meanings for first names... We just sort of went with Jasmine, no meaning behind it, other than the traditional, but we didn't think of that at the time! Nalin meas Lotus though, I do like that.

Mix is pretty cool! An X name I've never heard of! And I researched hard!

As for meaning, to me it would mean about being a mix of life. Happy/sad, good/bad, etc. I like that.

It's only one letter from Max, so not that bad. If he gets in first with the teasing and is confident calling himself funny "Mix-it-up" names then I don't see that as an issue.

I was talking to someone the other day about names and teasing and said in 9 years of teaching, I never heard a child tease another about their first name, and never had a child complain they'd been teased. Last names, yes, but first names no! Maybe it's because there are so many different names these days, because we all used to tease others about their names growing up. If you like it, go for it!

I too think its pretty cool! I love names that make people go "oh wow what an interesting name". I know Kailey isn't really 'out there' but the way we have spelt it have made some people comment and its nice to have a name that isnt so common.

And i agree that i have never recalled a first name being teased as there are so many different names due to different cultures.

That was me you were talking to about that last week

Indadhanu since posting I've really grown to like the name! my DS also has a different name which is why I was talking to JLeigh about it. We don't have any fear of him being teased though, different names are totally OK these days and kids don't know it's a different name, they just know that it's that kids name kwim. I think the adults are the ones who know it's a bit different and I think the teasing culture and bullying has been really worked on in schools anyway.

My son met a "new" old friend today (they were friends when they were babies but havent seen each other for years) and his name is Jett.. the first thing my 6 yr old did was laugh and ask if he can fly... he didnt even mean it in a nasty way he just wanted to know if he was called Jett did that mean he could fly..

So i guess my son must be an exception and i honestly dont think he is a nasty child, just a normal 6 yr old lol

Anyway my point... that is now a kind of normal name and he was teased ( much to my embarrassment) so i think a little boy called Mix would get picked on

I wouldn't use it, but we like really traditional names. I don't think Mix is really too out there, I reckon it sounds very LA, I reckon there would be a few cool guys named Mix in the US. As a kid I could see the name being teased...but everyone gets teased for stupid things...my name is Lily and apparently I loved willy's

I asked DF what he would say as a child if he met a kid called mix and e said he'd say, "Hey Mix, go make me a cake!" My DF is clearly mean

I like it, I don't love it, but like it. and no I wouldn't tease someone with the name Mix.

Unfortunately I think teasing is often more about picking on a weak link rather than a particular name... I know kids with very common names who are picked on and kids with unusual names who are not. The reverse is obviously also true.
