As long as you don't mind people continually screwing their noses up at you, go for it We chose slightly different names for our kids - our first was a girl, Talisha, which isn't SO uncommon and was well-received by family and friends....our second was a boy, who we named Manessah (pronounced MAN-ESS-AHHH) and LOTS of people screwed their faces up...and still do - when he tells people his name when we're out and about sometimes, everyone either loves it or hates it. But I don't particularly care - he loves his name (we call him Ness or Nessah for short) and we love his name, so that's that. It does get tiresome some days when people give you a blank look and assume you're saying it's a girls name, or asking for the spelling 10 times over cause they can't quite grasp it, but it's not a big deal. I am nearly 30 weeks pg with a boy and he will be Jeddiah (JED-EYE-AHH) or Jed for short....again, I have had some people love it and some not so much. But we love it, so that's that.
Love it! I've got friends with a Chay (pronouced Shay) and that's cool, but I think the Che spelling is cool. As for mispronunciations, well people say Sill as for Silas, I get Nelly when it's Nelle, and my dh gets called Random (and trust me that's not his name! ). If you like it - then go for it, you will never get EVERYONE to like it.
The only thing we've done with our names is that if we feel one is a bit more unique, then the other name is slightly more mainstream, so our kids can choose what name they want to use if that's ever an issue. Not that I think it ever will be.
